Default Can we still talk about fishing?

All,

A lot of heat in these threads right now. I just wanted to start one talking about the current bite. ( not if we should or shouldnít be PLEASE).

Iím in Carteret. Last weekend I caught some False Albacore not 200 yds from the ft Macon rock jetty.

im hoping to go out this weekend, and I really want to find some bonito. Anybody else planning to go? looking at the weather, the tides etc.

Iíve heard some discussion between trolling for them and just casting. What are you guys doing, and what kind of casting setups?

Good Health and Tight Lines.

RP.

You're next closest stop is AR315. Though 320 and 330 are good too. This past Sunday was busy out at 315. Bonitos, false Albie's and grey trout are the catch right now. Casting. You got to get there early though. Daybreak is best. Be prepared to social distance.

I don't see why you cant talk about fishing even though a few on here seems to get a little upset if you show any pictures of your catch. Of course these same people will likely get upset if you even watch fishing shows on the TV. As far as I know its still legal to go out and wet a line as longs as you give everyone plenty of space

Iím in, went out last week with a buddy and his 2 boys. Found these rare endangered species. I feel terrible that we brought them on the boat for pictures since we could have unknowingly infected them. Wish we could have dispatched them to prevent the spread of this virus! His kids had awesome pics but I didnít want to post pics of anyone but me. Iíll take the heat for social distancing and infecting these amazing creatures!

I didnít catch this one. Just photo op so I can show the wife that Iím a potential bad ass and she will look to me as Rambo

Iím down too. Since Iím stuck in Raleigh while working from home (and in clinic when needed) I havenít been able to get to that Saltwater I love so much. Luckily my boat fits in my garage so the wife and I can escape and go to Harris lake. Caught a couple 2-3lb largies flipping a creature bait this past weekend.

Haha. This was from Sunday morning, it was cool in the morning and warmer later in the day. I just made a run from one end of the lake to the other, that's why I had the jacket and beanie on. When we pulled up to the cove I saw a fish on a bed so I didn't waste any time pulling off clothes before making flips.

I do wear long sleeve shirts when I go fishing though. I get tired getting burnt and/or applying sunscreen every 2 hours. Plus, I've had too many family members with skin cancer scares. Now I just wear long sleeve fishing shirts, gloves, and facemask so I have to apply sunscreen to less of my body. If the temp is below 80 I wear these pants too, they breathe really well and I actually stay really comfortable. As for my feet, I can't stand shoes for some reason, never have. As long as it's not too cold I'm wearing flip flops.

Tons. Not just people out fishing with household members too. Saw a 23' Sea Hunt with 6 people on it, all around mid 30's and partying like any other weekend. Counted 10 Ski boats too.

But that's not what this thread is about. This is about current fishing only.

Iím on Holden Beach and the ramp gets packed since itís the only legal parking right now. Donít park along any road since they are not playing around with tickets. They just closed the beach starting at midnight today. Less boats this week than last. Lots of people fishing and the beach is pretty bare for this time of year. I polished my boat up last week and put it on the lift. Until this scum line brown crap water leaves Iím not getting the boat down. Bite inshore has been minimal but to be expected for this time of the year.

Went out of Beaufort inlet on Sunday and caught some bonito and albies. 315 was a parking lot so we pushed out to 320 and northwest places. Trying to make a stream run Saturday. Weather depending and if I can convince my wife to let my two fishing buddies come with me.

We hit 315 yesterday evening (only time I can go weekdays, yes I know morning, sunrise is the time), plenty of little tunnys, but no love from bonitos. Way rougher than expected.

Haven’t fished since Sunday but was able to get my son on his first Turkey this morning. That was better than any fish he’s ever caught.

We were able to escape to Jordan 2 weeks ago with no luck. New to crappie fishing. We live right by harris and had better luck on Sunday morning. It was chilly first thing, but by 10 or so, it was quite beautiful. I put more hours on the Trolling motor than the boat motor. Just a beautiful day to be out. Wife and kids loved cruising the shore line too.

My daughter landed her personal best catch! I'm one proud dad!

That's so great that your daughter is into fishing!

I don't really crappie fish, though I will dabble in throwing small spinners and bladed jigs for the occasional white bass for the fish fry. Harris lake has a LOT of good bass, last year a buddy and I caught a 20+lb 5 fish bag. If you plan to keep going to Harris get some topwater frogs, I like the Googan Baits Filthy Frog and LiveTarget frogs. Coming here soon the lilly pads and hydrilla will start to grow in and provide some cover for the larger bass. Cast deep into the hydrilla and retrieve with a 2-3 twitch pause motion and make sure you're rigged with at least 30lb braid.

My all time favorite fish strike is a topwater Redfish followed close behind by a topwater frog bass explosion. The Redfish chase down plugs like they're red demon submarines that just emerged from the depths, Bass strike frogs so hard they will throw water 5' in the air and tail splash on the way back down. That is sure to put a smile on yours and your daughters face.
