Default Dare Co police are pathetic

I mean seriously. I LIVE in Kill Devil Hills, moved there recently and have been off the beach several times to take care of my mom who lives in Hertford. I haven’t gotten my NC drivers license but have had shown all kinds of documentation to get back on the island without an issue. EXCEPT for tonight. I went to help my mom (78) get groceries and prepare for the lockdown and when I got back to the access point the new guy in town decided he would not allow me on the beach. I even had another lead officer’s handwritten ok to pass on my tax bill and he still wouldn’t let me on. What an ahole. I’ve applied for the resident pass they now require last Thursday and got an email from them saying they needed to know if I had CV19 and answered the question and still no pass. The supposed hotline goes unanswered.

What a joke. I hope no one else has to deal with this crap.

Police don't know where you live - kinda the point of checking. Curious - what state plates are on the car?
I can't get to my place in Atlantic Beach either.
Sorry for your difficulties.

If your mom needs anything else Hertford isn't but about 20 minutes from me bud just give me a shout.

I got over the bridge for work the other day but the officer hesitated a bit until I name dropped the guy with emergency management for the county that told me what documentation to bring, it definitely doesn't seem real consistent. I will say once across people sure aren't doing much to distance themselves. Pretty sure the entire high school population was at avalon pier surfing.

Did thy close AB as well? I have a job to check on but I was told that they weren’t allowing visitors to stay on the island and all of the state/municipal attractions were closed but no road blocks.

I just ran over the high rise bridge and back and saw no road blocks. Not sure about once you get out of the county, though.

Interesting that Dare County is one of the few counties that has no reported virus cases in North Carolina. They must be doing something right.

OK... I FINALLY got through to the Dare County people administering the permits. They claim their system was down over the weekend and didn't get my info. I got to tell you though, that officer was a prick last night. Whatever... Anyway, I'm good to go now. Thanks James for offering to help my mom.
Anyone planning to leave the beach and return be sure to get through to right place and have your permit.

AB is residents/property owners only, but I got a strongly-worded note from the HOA that they only want permanent full time residents in the complex. Some time ago they closed the time-share units and all visitor rentals cancelled through April.

actually they have had at least one case. But there are some other rural countries haven’t had any cases.

Finrazor, I think they should have let you in with your documentation. That was over the top but Dare is reporting 0 cases and Carteret with a population of only 70-75 thousand full time residents is reporting 11 cases. I believe Gillnetfounderman is right when he said Dare must be doing something right. Of course Dare closed it's county down and Carteret just started closing down and it's not completely closed now. For people that don't believe that the virus is that dangerous and shouldn't infringe on their rights, maybe the authorities such as Dr. Fuauci and Dr. Deborah Brix know what they are talking about when they say no unnecessary traveling and practice social distancing. From the sounds of some peoples behavior on Shackleford Banks and sandbars around the state this weekend social distancing and common sense isn't going to be enough. If people would just do what the authorities are asking us to do maybe we wouldn't need all these mandatory rules.

From witn
Late Wednesday morning, Dare County reported its first case of the virus. The county says the person got sick through travel or direct contact and is self-isolating.

entitled as in “it’s my house therefore I have a right to be there” as a matter of fact.

or entitled as in calling out secondary property owners who think they own everything.

When you have the correct info on drivers license and vehicle registration then you have a right to bitch. Until then you are at fault. Those guys are doing what they are told and that's the way it is. Like it or not. Suck it up or leave.
