Wonder if the gov bureaucrats can even place everyone under house arrest if they so desired? Whats to keep the other counties from not allowing non-residents access thru their area? Am not sure if I like what this can lead to. Can you imagine the hording or pure panic that would set in if people thought they might lose their privilege to go shop for groceries or other necessary items?

I don't get this. Not like you are going to spread the virus out on the beach or out on your boat. If restaurants and hotels are to be closed so be it but this seems a bit heavy handed!

I wonder if the county actually has the authority to do this.

I am guessing that since there was a state of emergency declared they can. Just like hurricane re-entry.

What is their plan of action if someone was to tow a boat there to go fishing? Lock them up?

This seems rather heavy handed. I expect it from communists like Deblasio but Dare County NC?

That's probably what they want to prevent. Everyone who works a public or big corporate job with time off and nothing to do.

I think Dare's afraid that if it allows nonresidents in that they will overload the health care services when the covid19 virus numbers increase. Not to mention the authorities are asking people to shelter in place if possible. With more people in the county more people will need services.

Agreed that it's intended to keep the vacationers away. I don't know of any other county in the US that has closed their borders like this. And of all the current suggested or mandatory restrictions in place, this one seems like the most egregious(?). Especially considering that it basically bars reasonable access to places outside of the county line. I bet either every county in the US ends up doing this, or Dare rolls it back. They cited guidelines from the CDC and the President's Coronavirus Guidelines on discretionary travel. I guess I thought they meant Disneyland.

Guys, I don't have any idea if it's necessary, but if the virus spreads like it did in Italy the hospitals in the coastal towns will be overwhelmed with just county residents. If there were enough tests to go around, I'm sure we would have better data and know just how bad the problem is going to be. Maybe the authorities enacted restrictions soon enough to help ease the pain, so that restrictions will not have to stay in place for months. Unfortunately I think that genie's already out of the bottle. I think we'll know the answer to that question within the next couple of weeks.

The other aspect is it triggers trip insurance so all of the weddings, reunions, and other events that shouldn't be taking place don't have everyone, customers and vendors, to lose their money.

I got two places booked one for memorial day and the other for labor day, hope this is curtailed by then. My last 3 trips to hatteras have been cut short from hurricanes, washover and now Corona. All I want to do is use my new outriggers.......

national emergency, state state of emergency, county state of emergency, town state of emergency, all enable different levels of restrictions. This is no different than the county restricting things after a hurricane until our local infrastructure can handle more than the year round population. Recommended limits of 10 people, yet the average rental house sleeps 15+, with dozens sleeping 40+ now, it isn't safe to bring people in from all over the country to stay together in a house, then in the matter of a couple of hours get the house cleaned and disinfected for another group to come in for the next week. We haven't had paper products in any real quantity for 5 days now and other supplies are in short order. No one can eat out, schools are closed so some parents are staying home with kids so businesses are further short staffed.

This is really tough for the local businesses. However, reducing the traveling between states should slow down the spread of the virus.
