Default I know where to not trout fish

7 gill netters in the canal I live on the other night! 7! The canal is 40 streets long which equates to around 20 city blocks. Widest point around 40 ft wide at low tide, many areas 20ft wide. Do these netters work together or separate? Fish have no chance. What say you?

You got to think like a netter when you say it. Or think like Cleetus from the Simpsons.

They are only keeping 75 each so should be plenty for everyone.

Might be a little more believable if you were to snap a picture of the so-called carnage. I could claim that over 50 rec fishermen came up to the Harkers island bridge yesterday and fished it completely out but hardly anyone would believe it.

Seriously Aleon, I do not know if the netters were breaking some law or not by fishing gill nets in that canal that you live on. If they are legal then I would assume they have as much right to fish it as you or I. If its illegal then snap some pictures and send them to the DMF Leo's and let them handle the situation.

At the time of this set ,trout were 87 cents per lb. Is that worth it or is it to spite the rec fisherman

To some people that money can make a difference in their lives, pay a bill they could not otherwise pay. To some it makes no difference. I doubt they are doing it to spite anyone

Where is this happening? Sounds like a really long canal at 40 blocks long.

Are they breaking a law? If so, I have to agree with the above and hope you took pics and reported them. I seem to recall you had this experience last winter as well so my guess is either they are legal or you have reported them

That has little bearing on part-timers. If they were truly trying to support a family in your area, there are plenty of opportunities a heck of a lot better than 87-cent trout. There is zero enforcement. The 75-fish limit per operation is a joke. If you witness one vessel transferring fish to another vessel that is a violation if combined possession is greater than 75-fish.

Speckle trout should be game fish.

Everyone needs to get involved- I joined 80 passionate fishermen/conservationists last night to enjoy a great fish stew and listen to a good presentation by Joe Albea... NC Coastal Fisheries Reform Group on Facebook or this website http://www.nccfrg.org

Guess the fish in the fish stew was not fresh NC commercially caught LOL
Can you share here some of the goals of your group and how you plan to accomplish them?

Information on your facebook page does not provide much other than changing how the state manages marine resources. No info on specific goals etc..

Nope...fresh NC recreationally caught by several of the attendees.

Not "my" group...I just wrote them a check and offered to help them anyway I can, so maybe I am a member now. Good group to be part of, nice guys- a healthy abundant resource and sustainable fisheries being the goals.

You might go to the webpage and look at the tabs across the top of the homepage to answer a few of your questions.
