Default Got skunked today...Figure 8 Island

Wow, what a cross-wind going opposite of the tide today fishing the backside flats of Figure 8 and Mason Inlet.

We got skunked targeting trout and drum. But it wasn’t a complete loss...we pulled in a few sea robins and tiny porgies; which were somewhat fun. Trying to figure out if it’s technique, location, or gear. I alternated jigs (multiple colors) w paddle tails and gulp shrimp, real (dead) shrimp, as well as mirrorlure crankbaits, all on 12# fluoro leader.

Any thoughts?

Mullet are your friend on a Carolina rig. We’ve been crushing them this way south of you. Tomorrow will be my 4th consecutive full day fishing just for trout. We’ve managed some nice class fish on bait. Smaller fish on paddles and the other stuff but water is 64 and full of bait. They hit the live mullet like a freight train... be prepared to throw some flounder back. Threw some nice fish back these past few days

Operator Error????? Just kidding.....
It's hard to tell what when wrong without being there.
Find 3 baits - top / suspend / sinking / you have confidence in & just fish that.

You picked tough conditions yesterday to fish.....
Hope this helps......ICM

If I get skunked on baits I'm confident in I'm a lot more confident in it just was a good time to be fishing or a bad spot. But fresh shrimp is usually a good way to tell but I fished live bait the other day and if the shrimp died I wouldn't get a hit. Otherwise all the small trouts I could catch and a few decent reds.

How are you fishing the live bait? On the bottom? Drifting?

Gone one day back the next. They have fins and they swim around. You missed them. Not gonna argue with you. Have you fished the lollypop this year?

What's up hater?
How's that rarified air your breathing from your high moral poling platform?

Try posting a current report that may help someone. Not going to happen is it?
You can tell us all about last years fish by blowing up a spot.
Or criticise me for trying to protect a spot.
PS:The Lollipop ( correct spelling ) is too crowded for me......ICM
