Where abouts in Raleigh will you be and how far are you willing to drive? It's not the biggest city, but it's a sprawling city.

I'd say Clyde Coopers if you're downtown. Bullocks in Durham if you're on the west side and willing to drive a little. Ole Time if you're on the west side and don't want to drive to Durham. Big Als's on the far northeast edge, outside of I-540.

Meh, they got so popular and became a “destination” that they stopped trying.

OP, where are you staying in Raleigh? Downtown popper, RTP, Cary?

If you are right downtown I would hit up Oak, it’s a great restaurant. Anise Pho on Glenwood is a regular spot for my wife and myself (few times a week)

Beasley’s Chicken and Honey is a great spot too

if you want to grab a drink hit up Foundation on Fayetteville street.

If I was in town this week I would totally take you out and show you around. We just bought a house downtown.

If you're going to be downtown then Clyde Coopers, hands down. They've been at it for 81 years. The Pit is good, but it's TX BBQ - nothing against TX, but if you're NC you might as well have NC BBQ.

Clyde's is decent. Drive east and things will get better quickly.

I hit Smithfields every trip to the coast always good, im sure there is better off the beaten path but its consistent. I still think Lexington Style is better though

Tommy died last year but Bullock's had not been that great even before he passed. The best place in Durham IMHO is Hog Heaven. They have a place on Guess Road. They have catered several of our events as well. They also cater for many Iron Dukes events.
But if you can get up Roxboro way, try Smoky Dave's. Easy to find, just head up Madison Blvd, and follow the smoke to the woodpile!

The Pit in Raleigh or Durham (there's two). The one in Raleigh in near a barcade called Boxcar if you're into video games and beers.
