Default Trailering to Beaufort NC....hotel w slip?

Havenít really started googling yet, figured this was the best place for info.

We want to trailer the 20í cc up from Wilmington, head to shack and cape lookout etc, spend the night then repeat the next morning.

I see the Beaufort Inn has slips for $40/night and they said I can park the trailer at a nearby marina for $10/night.

Price seems ok to me at first glance. Anyone got other/better options? And where would yíall recommend we launch?

Edit: actually, forget all that. I slept on it and Iím gonna make it a day trip. My luck Iíll book a room and the weather will be crap.

So now just looking for a place to launch and park the truck/trailer for the day. Shouldnít be hard to figure out. Thanks gentlemen!

The Inn is great, stayed there a bunch. Deep slips right on the main drag, mins from beach and food. Zero room for trailers around there, I have to pay to store mine as well.

Anchorage Marina, just can't beat it for convenience. Launch there at the marina and park trailer there.

Beaufort yacht basin may give you a better deal keeping it on the trailer. Otherwise it's 1.95 per foot most places.

Why not run the boat up? Stay at the Inlet Inn and get a slip in front of the Dock House.

I could handle that but my 8 and 11 year old would probably go stir crazy. And Iím thinking pretty much every place would require a 2 night stay this time of year and we canít do that. Plus, book a room and then the weather turns at the last minute.

So day trip it is. Lv ILM around 6 and be in the water by 9 I hope.

Weekend or weekday? Since you're coming from the south, you can hop over the bridge on 58 and put in at the ramp on Emerald Isle. I've always been able to find parking there (even on holiday weekends) and it's a nice ~50 minute ride up the ICW. That ramp also tends to be less busy and has a much better layout than the one on radio island. Only downside is Bogue Sound can kick up and give you a bumpy wet ride home.

On a weekday you can put in at the wildlife ramp by the boathouse and skip crossing the inlet if you're comfortable with skinny water.

Thanks horse, itíll be a Saturday trip.

I want to put in as close to shack as I can, spend our time on the island rather than in the boat.

Boat drafts about 15Ē loaded Iíd say. Just a 20í cc.

If we get there around 8-8:30 on a Saturday is it crazy at the ramps? And are they public? Free? Or is better to pay to put in at a marina? Iíve got zero boating experience up there.

In beaufort we put in at the East end of Taylor Creek beside the boathouse. Decent parking and free (I think, haven't been down in a few years).

Only thing is that ramp will make you look like a newbie. The current rips through there.

Puts you right there near Shack.

Really? I would have LOVED that run when I was that age. Hop in and out at different sandbars, "exploring" all over.

Either way, good luck. and have fun.

Weíre on the boat just about every weekend and theyíve seen so many sandbars and islands theyíre already getting jaded lol. Iím sure weíll make that run in a few years but right now my 8 yr old son gets restless just riding for too long. His sister could probably handle it no problem. Hell Iíd let her drive half the time lol.

If you are staying at the Beaufort Inn, I would look at Beaufort West ramp. Not as steep as the Taylors Creek ramp. Almost no current to deal with and a clear shot to Beaufort Inn.

According to your timeline it is going to be miserable for you at the ramps. You need to be leaving around 3:00 am not 6:00 am. Better all the way around following folks out to getting on the morning bite.

Lol thatís a funny thought, getting my wife and two young kids on the road at 3am. I wouldnít mind it a bit if I was solo.

Not fishing, just hanging out on shack. Guess Iíll have to take my chances at the ramps. Maybe I can get them moving by 5a. They can go back to sleep on the ride up.
