Default New topsail inlet

Any updates with the dredging at new topsail inlet. I saw on the news the town has to stop due to turtle season. Did they complete the inlet? Is it marked correctly to get out to the ocean?

Thanks

I ran it last Friday afternoon with no issues. Straight out with slight fade to the south as you get to the bar. I think 5' was as shallow as we saw. Hoping to run it again on Thursday this week.

Last survey looks pretty accurate for the inlet itself but no buoys as you go out so really have to read the water. Not sure if they did actual work in the inlet or just inside of it and the path over to Howard's. I'd be careful around that last set of buoys if you're going out after coming down Banks channel. The cut thru closest to the beach is now further away from the beach and seems like the point reaches further out. That surprised us the most.

I heard dredging the inlet was put on hold until the winter. Good to hear you had decent water.

I was in that area Saturday and they were still working. That's poor planning to have all that out there and not be able to finish.

As said before, equipment is out there. I just can't figure out why they are dredging where they are working. Nowhere near the inlet or Topsail cut. Was out on Sat

As of this morning, the only equipment in the S curves is a crane barge and barges with piping. The dredge was in the S curves 6-10 weeks ago then worked south towards Lea Island. It never made the left to the inlet from what I recall.

Our Dredging / Dune Restoration Project Starts Next Week

jbeard posted on February 15, 2019 15:27At the board meeting Wednesday night, the commissioners voted to accept the bid from Cottrell contracting corporation to complete the planned channel dredging and dune restoration project. the proposed project includes dredging topsail creek and some areas of shoaling in banks channel that will improve boating access and safety for our recreational boaters and commercial vessels. in addition, the beneficial sand removed as part of the dredging will be used to help repair the dunes damaged from the storm. the project will help get our dunes back to pre-Florence levels.

Work on this project is already underway! the contractor has begun mobilizing and the dredge has arrived. residents will begin seeing equipment and activity on the beach as early as next week, weather permitting. activity for both the dredge and on the beach will start on the south end of the town and move north. we anticipate this work to be complete the end of march/first of April.

The second, bigger nourishment project is planned for late fall – early winter. this project will involve dredging more of banks channel and topsail inlet and utilizing the sand to nourish our beach and provide greater protection from future storms. more information on this project will be sent out as it becomes available.

For more information on these upcoming projects, please contact us at town hall

I haven’t been thru there yet this year I have heard mixed reports saying it has plenty water in the inlet just getting there is a little shady.

We just ran back entrance to Lea Island last weekend and that has changed significantly from last year. Florence done a number on it will be interesting to see how it affected Topsail Inlet and Rich’s Inlet.

So If I read this correctly, survey was Dec of 18 and Jan of 19. It says imagery was 12 Sept of 18 though...still pretty old.

Has anyone gone out of Riches Inlet this year? I went out back in February and saw 5' at a mid rising tide. Haven't been out of it since. Thanks!

The dredge has been there for quite a while and the Corps has tried to survey 2 times without success. Cannot get through due to all the pipes. That is why I was asking if anyone had run the creek.

Nope. Don't know where you get your info but it's been surveyed. The creek is not blocked.

I received an email back from the Corps that stated the last time they tried to survey they could not get through. That is why there is not a new survey up. The last survey was in January. They tried in mid-April and could not get it done. Maybe they have been back since and completed the survey but there is no new data posted on the Corps website. If you have information, please post.
