Default Is a Fusion radio worth the extra cost?

My Fusion 650 is having issues. It powers on for one second, then turns off. Cant get Fusion to answer the phone to see if they can fix it. If repair isn't an option, is it worth the extra $300-$400 to get another Fusion. Never had a Kenwood, Sony Etc. Marine radio on a offshore boat. Suggestions or recommendations. Thanks

I've owned 3 including my current UD750 and have had problems with every one of them. Had one of their amps smoke and almost caught fire, had 6 of their speakers and they leaked this black stuff all down my gunwales. Not a fan, but better options are limited.

Always just use a decent car head unit, works fine, never lets me down.

Only reason I got one was the display. Most car units are meant to be seen from level or from above (looking down at the unit). My AM/FM radio is in the overhead and when a car unit is mounted there the display is unreadable. The Fusion radios have a display that is visible when viewed from below the unit height (looking up). Other than that, they are nothing special. The features and performance are just average. My RA70 didn't even have basic tone controls until after I downloaded a software update.

Before the Fusion I had a Boss "marine" unit that was fine except for having to stand on tiptoes to see the display.

Their radios/head units are the best on the marine market (which isn't necessarily saying a lot) but their components (speakers/amps/subs/etc) are crap.

There just aren't any better options in a head unit that I'm aware of. The black box version with the guts inside the console away from weather is the best way to go. The boss/jensen/marinized car head units I've had didn't even make it a full summer before crapping out. My Fusion has lasted close to 5 now.

Mine has done similar when the volume was up. It would play fine, Pump up the volume and it would turn off and the back on for a second and repeat. I cleaned the connections and it works great. Maybe yours can be that easy also.

Been happy with this in my skiff for the last two years. Sits out exposed to weather/elements 24/7/365.

got mine on sale for $250 or so, but I already had a gauge hole style radio before this.

The RA770 is the best unit I have had and I have had a lot of different units. When tuning my JL amps with meters, we had zero distortion. I got one of the first ones out and had an issue with it popping and shutting down when connecting blue tooth multiple time but a software update fixed it last year. Now they have the master volume working correctly from the side buttons on the phone I really like it. It's cool how far it works with my phone app on wi-fi versus BT.

My Fusion likes to be reset. As in, the volume knob will not work unless it's reset.

To reset it, Simply push the Power button and hold for 10 seconds. Let it "reboot" itself, then turn it on.

Hope this helps you. I'm no big fan either.

How are y'all's wired? I haven't had any problems with the volume knob on mine, but I turn batteries off at the switch at the end of the day.

My 650MS-UD stopped working after a year or so. Power comes on but can't do anything else. Maybe I'll try a reset (I think I've already done it) or I just checked and there are firmware upgrades available too. The warranty is no good if you can't get anyone to respond or if the inconvenience of repair outweighs the cost of replacement.

I was thinking about upgrading to a Fusion radio but have not as of yet. My 10+ year old Sony Marine still works fine. I wish it had some better functionality as we listen to USB allot and I'd like to have XM built in. But, I think I may just upgrade my speakers and keep thinking about the radio. If it aint broke....

I started out with a "BOSS" brand head unit that looked just like a fusion and some speakers that did not. Speaker covers turned yellow and cracked. Ordered some fusions of the same size to replace them. Speaker was 100% identical, just a different sticker on the back and a different grill cover, sounds the same too. Looked at the back side of the fusion head unit in store recently, exact same as my box, just different sticker. Just an FYI

Back side is hard to tell much from though considering its just a heat sink and wire outlets, which are pretty standard design.

you know, Fusion and Garmin have something going on, for about six months Fusion has been changing their part numbers to match Garmin, I also see their templates are now marked Garmin

I've had a 650 for 12 years, changing it out for a 755 today.
