Why in the world would they make this decision? There is some shoaling creeping into the channel out in front of the lighthouse, but thatís it. This is nuts, other than the dog leg, the channel is fine. Oregon Inlet, Beaufort Inlet, and CFR eat up a majority of dredging funding. I really donít see the Drain getting dredged anytime soon. In the large scheme of things, just not enough traffic and not enough squeaky wheels

we'll be lucky enough to ever see the HI ramp approach be dredged. Let alone the bad spot in the drain.

For full disclosure, I and my family own one of those restaurants. My post was strictly for information purposes, and I'll leave it at that...other than to say the couple that runs the ferry services (Beaufort & Harkers Island) are very nice people. I hold no personal ill will toward them.

Wait, you own a local restaurant, not only do you not talk trash at someone opening a competing business but you seemingly welcome the new venture, and you have no ill will toward the govmint sponsored ferry vendor...?!? Surely you ain't from round here.

So a little different than my idea, I have always thought basically a floating food truck anchored in the bite or behind shack could be a successful venture. Set up at one of the drop offs where thereís shallow enough water to walk to it from the beach or pull a boat up to the other side.

Never met him before but pretty sure from what Iíve pieced together from other threads (especially Capt Buckís Ugly Boat one) heís one of those unicorns that if every transplant tried to emulate, there would be no reason for people to mind new folks moving in from ďoffĒ. A dingbatter that has successfully run a restaurant on HI and been accepted by the community to the point that itís been the place all the local boat builders eat lunch and hang out at for years now.

Well, he does a pretty good job mimicking a country boy accent, one yankee "yous guys" would have had him escorted off island in a skinny minute! He also greets all the locals by name and constantly makes the rounds checking on everyone. On occasion he even goes in the kitchen and cooks himself! (Those skrimps were great Friday by the way, thanks!)

I believe you if want to have a food service truck/barge, that you have to be several hundred yards from national park grounds. Am I correct?
Always thought it could be a novelty, but bigger PITA and hard to turn a profit with limited weather days and relatively short seasons.

A friend ran to the Cape today at mid tide using my old track, he said its skinny no doubt but the only real problem is a Shoal sign dead center my track. in a Bay boat oh, he said the Hook is full of pogies.

So in short if one wanted to take their family to the lighthouse putting in at radio island what would be the best course? Would be in a 21 Kencraft Challenger so not a deep draft.

Head to shack then follow a boat that races by and turns left toward harkers island. Follow to the east end of harkers island then follow a boat that looks like it knows where it's going and is headed toward the cape. Follow him closely. Mark your track so you can get home in reverse.

Or of course the shorter and easier way if weather permits, Beaufort inlet then turn left and head straight for the lighthouse. Or follow the beach line if that feels safer.

From the looks of the picture I could dredge out the problem area with a shovel and five gallon bucket in a week.

One of my old tracks, but I think it should be pretty accurate still. I made this run 3 times last week (out and back on Wednesday and then out on Thursday coming back on the oceanside).

Yeah, a lot of bait balls. On Wed of last week, I actually watched a right whale inside the hook for a bit as well.

Everyone's against government spending unless it's on something good for them. I just as soon keep the redneck markers than be just another group of folks suckin' on the guvment teat.

Thanks for posting CaptGorges

We have also talked about a taco/burger set up at CL. Would make a killing but Iím sure some government red tape would shut it down or steal the idea
