Default Any opinions on the Merrimon, NC area?

Does anyone have an opinion/information about the Merrimon area? Seems to be some decent lots for building and maybe keeping a boat behind the house?
Thanks,
MPM87

It is less then 15 minutes from Beaufort and 30 or so from Morehead. That area has not done well during hurricanes typically, the surge starts to really bottleneck in certain parts but it's only one day on your roof every so often.

15 minutes from Beaufort to turning of hwy 101! Then, it's a nice slalom drive for another 15 to the water! It is beautiful once you get down to the river though, have a couple friends who live down there and they both got torn up pretty bad in Flo.

My point being it's not to hell and gone like Cedar Island or places DE. It is not a good place for storm surge, I think we all agree with that. Flo was a matter of what side of a creek or what way your house was facing for lots of folks, if you faced NE then it sucked bad. I went down to Merrimon about 3 or 4 days after the storm to help some folks and it won't pretty.

I was just poking a little fun llord! I was down there too after helping patch up and gather docks. It isn't quite as far as skeeter island either!

The whole south river area has its share of sketters if memory is correct. I really think that mpm87 can do much better but it really depends on what he wants from an area.

Just have to build on pilings - and keep nothing under the house. I have quite a few friends that live down there. If I could afford it, I would live there in a heart beat. Nice western view of the sun setting.

Beautiful sunsets.

The water does rise during a hurricane. It got quite a lot higher btw - the dock under water is Hog Slat dock - I believe. It does very well in all of the storms.

There's a reason why land and homes are cheap in the Merrimon area. Several reasons, actually.

Beautiful Downtown North River may be an option. Enjoy a breath taking sunrise as the sun just rises above the water. Super cheap land too.

Love llord's line about Sasquatch!

When you say North River area are you referring to towns like Newport?

No, I don't believe he is. Go to GoogleEarth and search for Merrimon, zoom in and you will see North River just to the southeast of Merrimon.

Well you won't get the sunrise on the water but you would the sunset from the other side of the North River in Beautiful downtown Bettie! Don't know how much more height clearance the new bridge will give if it's ever completed but you can get a boat in there now if it doesn't have a t-top and draws less than 3". Occasionally Saturday nights there can get pretty wild, at least I think they were, it's still kind of foggy but I heard I had a good time!

Only until the windshield is so loaded with smashed bugs that the wipers get gummed up and you can't see anything.

Its a flip of the coin as to whether the Merrimon area is better than down town North River and about the only better thing is that North River is a little closer to Beaufort but That micky mouse town is nothing to brag about unless you like a bunch of old homes and high priced restaurants.
