Default Scam

I came across this listing, and many more like it, on Boatsdepot.org.

http://www.boatsdepot.org/boat.asp?id=8553

I think this one, http://www.boatsdepot.org/boat.asp?id=8612 , is a previous listing from a THT member.

Anyway, I got into an e-mail bashing with the guy for fun. It's long, but it I was bored. I've included our correspondence, in reverse order, in case you get bored sometime.

I don't know if the site itself is a scam or if its just been hijacked by the scammers.

Just a few words of advice:

1- Your use of the English language is nothing short of terrible. Even illiterate, uneducated or mentally handicapped Americans have a better grasp of simple terminology than you do. Use a dictionary and look up Jack Ass. It will describe a donkey, but when we use the word here, in the GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH, to describe another person, we intend it as an insult to their intelligence. Jackass.

2- Anyone who knows about boats and boating knows, without question, that this boat (as well as the others you are posting) is not just under priced, it is insanely, ridiculously and unbelievable under priced. Those words are also in the dictionary, Jackass.

3- E-Bay does not handle any type of money and/or contracts directly. Any money transferred in an E-Bay transaction goes through a popular and secure money transfer site. Additionally, E-Bay isn't going to be a middle man for a purchase not made, or item not advertised on their site. I'm sure you would know this if you were actually a legitimate seller, Jackass.

4- The manner which I described purchasing the boat would protect me and you if you were a legitimate seller. If you weren't sitting in a hole in your third world country, typing on a keyboard with missing keys, working for pennies and trying to scam hard working people out of their hard earned money instead of supporting yourself and your family with the honor and integrity of a legitimate job; you would understand that. I could transfer the funds with a wireless device and you could verify the transfer before the personnel at the secure lot would let me leave with the property. Jackass.

5- I'm sure you won't care, but I will also report this to E-Bay and advise them of your scam and also that the real Davis Hendricks has nothing to do with you. I'm sure E-Bay won't travel to the God forsaken litter box you call home, but they may be as equally amused by your ignorance as I am. Jackass.

6- Based on your poor usage of written English and the fact that you are nothing more that one rat in a large sewer, I don't believe you are the boss. Because of your ignorance, lack of education, and overall lowly status in life, you will most likely never ascend any further in your pathetic excuse for a professional career. As such, please pass this message on to your superiors who, even thought they aren't qualified to inflate a bicycle tire in the United States - THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH - are actually a higher class of citizen than you. Also, please advise them of one of our favorite rituals here in the USA when we don't like someone; stand on your chair so that your skinny, undernourished ass is at face level, pull down your pants exposing your flesh, bend forward, and say "Kiss My Ass", at which point you can both take comfort in meeting all the requirements to be a Jackass.

Have a wonderful day.

Dear sir
The eBay will handle the transaction for me 100% for me.
Like i said the transaction must be made through eBay . I have a contract with them and i must respect this. You will receive the boat in 7 days. You can test and inspect the boat for 30 days. In case if you don't like the boat and you don't want to keep it eBay will refund your money back. Meanwhile eBay will hold the money into a trust account.
So,this is not a blind transaction, you can see the boat before you
decide to buy it. This way we are both protected : i will know that i
have a serious buyer who has the money to pay me and you will be able
to see and inspect the boat before buying it .
If you are really interested in purchasing the boat please send me your
full name, shipping address and your phone number. eBay will give you
all the details regarding the shipping and payment. I will ship the boat so you can Inspect, test and make a decision if you will keep it or not. If you will not get exactly the same boat that you have viewed in the ad, and also a clear title you will receive all your money back from eBay .Though i am sure you will love the boat and will not want to return it.
I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.
Regards,

Miami is perfect, I can actually stop by and see the boat, as I am in that area. You can cut the shipping out and I'll just pick it up. if I like the boat, which I am sure I will, I can transfer the funds via my I-Pad. Once the trailer and boat are secured to my tow vehicle, but before I leave the storage lot, I'll send the funds. Being that I can pick up the boat myself, we can agree on a flat $8000.00. How's that sound?

Dear sir,
Both the boat and the trailer and the title of property are clear. Total amount that you have to pay for the boat/trailer/shipping taxes/engines/documents/ is $8300. The engine depth has been inspected and serviced by Marina Service. Annual Boat Services have been inspected twice a year and there are no problems. The pictures speak for themselves.
The boat is located in Miami FL at a shipping and storage company ready to be delivered. Like i said the transaction must be made through eBay, I have a contract with them and i must respect this. . Let me explain you how the eBay process works.
The process works something like this:
First you will send the money to eBay bank account and after the shipping company will deliver the boat at your address. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the boat in good condition. eBay will confirm me that you have made the payment. The payment method will be established by eBay after the transaction is started. You will receive the boat in 7 days. You can test and inspect the boat for 30 days. I will ship the boat so you can Inspect, test and make a decision if you will keep it or not. In case if you don't like the boat and you don't want to keep it eBay will refund your money back. If everything is ok eBay will get the approval from you to release the funds to me and the transaction will be completed. The boat comes with the trailer, the documents, engine, 4 life jakets, etc... all included in this price. If you agree with this terms and you want to buy the boat send me your full name and your shipping adress so i can start the transaction.

Thank you and hope to hear you soon,

Just so we are clear,,,eight thousand and three hundred dollars ($8300.00)?

Where is the boat located?

Hello ,
I'm glad you are interested in the boat . It's in perfect condition without any mechanical problems , no damages or hidden defects , no need for additional repairs , clear title without any accidents , liens or loans . All power equipment are in working order , all the documents and papers . The price of this boat , trailer is 8300usd includes shipping taxes to your address . And I want to make this transaction through eBay Vehicle Purchase Program we can close this deal fast and safe for both of us . We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account. I am registered with their secure trader department and they will handle the trade. The transaction is very secure for bouths parts, the safest and the only system I trust , because they offer the highest rate of safety and reliability for online transactions . We will both benefit of eBay purchase protection policy . I already pre arranged the whole process with them . I have a contract with them and i must respect this . If you agree on the full purchase price , we make all the arrangements for the transfer of the title of property and the other details . I require your full name ( street , city , state , zip code , phone number ) .
As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure , and eBay Company will notify you about this with payment and shipping instuctions . You'll also receive important guidelines + instructions from them ( please go through them exactly ) .
Also , a refund policy will be included .
There are 2 other potential buyers for the boat at the moment , so I'm waiting for your email ASAP
Best Regards!

The second link has cut n' paste pics from this old thread.

The OP deleted the pics on the old thread when he sold the boat; however, I remember looking at those lovely photos over and over and over....

$8,900 huh...?

Thats too funny. If you want a real good laugh. try finding oner of those chinese sites that sell electronics and shoot them an email saying you are interested in purchasing 100 big screen led tv's. They will start sending you emails telling you they can give them to you for 2-300 bucks and then when you dont send them money they get real creative.. Good for entertainment on a boring rainy night.

Yep, I almost fell for a listing on boatsdepot about a year back but when I asked for a hull ID number, funny thing....I didn't get any more e-mails from the bogus seller about the boat and it wasn't until then that it dawned on me. So I started going through the listing and scams were everywhere! Beware if you buy a boat on this site, go look at it first!

If the guy is actually capable of taking something other than an insult away from it, more power to him. Actually, I'm not even sure he got the insult part, Either way, its not going to stop him or anyone else from running a scam, but it helped me to pass the time during a visit with the in laws.

I know what you mean Physsh. I use to respond in the same manner as you to the same type of scam. But there are so many similar ones, I finally got bored, and just gave up. I doubt the scammers ever will. For some reason, we all hope that maybe just one will be legit!!!

Ha! I am sitting on 3 emails from the same guy at the same email address advertising a Ranger Banshee for 4300usd. Knowing the price was about 10K less than any other I had looked at, I assumed it was a scam when I first replied.

My responses to him have been nearly the same as yours and his responses have been about the same.

Ammusingly, when I asked for some extra pics, he sent me 6 more pics in addition to the 4 listed in the ad. Funny thing is, the boat in the ad had a Yam F60 for power and was all white. The next 6 pics had 3 different boats. Evenrude power, Gold/White hull, Blue/white hull, plain white with no motor on one. When I replied, are we discussing a different boat, I got an email like yours with the addition of " I am currently in Arizona for a couple of weeks doing some military advisory work and can't be in Miami to show the boat.

Like you, I suggested I'd just show up in Miami, cash in hand and tow the boat home.
That didn't fly any further than yours did.

I was thinking I'd call the Florida Dept of Consumer Affairs, but I really suspect the guy is holed up in some third world country thinking scamming is a legitimate way of earning a living.

That whole website is a scam. I tried the same thing last year and all the responses are the same. I also tried to contact the website but to no avail.

Reminds me of a saying my grandmother used to say. Fools and money are easily separated.

It would still be nice to napalm his computer and possibly even his server though.

If you are feeling particularly nasty and evil tempered, the email address...you can sign him up for all kinds of nasty porn.

Whenever you come across this stuff, forward the URL or email to:

reportphishing@antiphishing.org

This is a government/industry group that goes after these guys and trys to get their ISPs to turn them off. I actually got a guy busted down in Florida a bunch of years back who ripped me & others off on ebay. I got a nice letter from the county sherriff that made the arrest and a letter a year later that the guy got 7-10 in the slammer!
