Default How Do Penn Downrigger Releases Work

I can't find any information on these old Penn rigger releases, the kind that is screwed to the fin of the Penn rigger ball.

Can anyone please explain to me how to use them, how to connect them to my fishing line?

I believe the ring part pulls out of the adjustable catch. Some users tied a clip on the main line, some just let the line run through the ring so they could adjust drop back length.Lots of release options out there.

Thanks for the reply.

I use other modern releases like Black's, Cannon and Scotty, but I'm curious to know if anyone has ever used these. The wedge piece (tab) with the hole in it slides out, and the tension screw on top is adjustable. It's an interesting design that I have never seen before, until I bought some used Penn downriggers that came with Penn rigger weights that all had these releases on them. The ring in the tab is a fully enclosed, so I'm wondering if the fishing line was rigged with a bead and leader setup.

Line slips through the ring, and the tension is adjusted so it the ring pops out. Blacks clips set heavy with a #64 rubber band works for me.
