Default Bilge pump randomly comes on

My bilge pump randomly comes on for a second or two every so often. Does not seam to be a pattern to when it comes on or how often. The boat is on a trailer totally dry. Is this a sign it needs to be replaced or what may be causing this.
Thank you,

Some bilge pumps are designed to come on periodically to test for the presence of water. This is in contrast to those designed to operate with a float switch, which are designed to come on when the water level in the bilge has risen enough to trigger the switch. Either that, or you have gremlins and haints in your boat.

This just started happening, so I don't think it is by design. The time period in between when it comes on can be just a few minutes. This is on a 22" 2005 Pathfinder TE, if that helps. The main reason I am concerned is that is will run down the batter when not being charged. Since it is the bilge pump it is still on when my battery switch is turned off.

Probably design. Read the table on the pump and see if it tells you anything.

The sensor is dirty. Get some bleach and a tooth brush and take bilge off of base. Scrub and wipe
