Default water heater swap

Is there any reason not to swap my leaking Raritan water heater with a 6 gallon Reliance unit for half the price?

If it doesn't need to be uscg approved I don't see why not.

I'll bet the Reliance is NOT ignition protected.

The water heater runs on 120v shore power at the dock.

Doesn't matter. One small leak of gas fumes and you go BOOM.

Operationally yes it will work. Safety wise… You decide.

If it isn't ignition protected it is a safety hazard. And if you ever have to get a marine survey for insurance (or when you sell the boat) it will be identified as a safety item then, and you will have to replace it. Do it right the first time.
