Default What happened to Tiara?

Just surfing a bit and I thought I would see what Tiara lately. Apparently they are out of the fishing boat business now? I use to think they made some of the best looking fishing boats which you could also cruise. Now I think they are competing with Carver for the ugliest boats. I am sure the quality is still there, nevertheless disappointing. Someone is buying them, just don't know who.

The brand definitely seems confused. They cannot decide which features should be sold by Tiara vs. Pursuit. It used to be Tiara featured the larger inboard model and Pursuit had the smaller outboard models. Some Tiaras now sport outboards. Neither brand is (or has ever been) hard-core fishing. They targeted family cruisers that also wanted the ability to fish

Obviously they are reacting to market pressure and models reflect what they think people want. I don't get some of the trends at all. For instance Dual Consoles are suddenly very popular - they make no sense to me

I like the new Sport models by Pursuit and will likely get one in the not too distant future

I just wanted to get a rise out of the Tiara fans. Apparently there are only a few here.

Pursuit is now the fishing line of S2 which also has a Tiara line.

I really like like the new 38.

no skin in the game on my part one way or the other, but the fact is they made a very decent good looking boat. Fished on a few and they performed well.

Wanna fish?

Buy a Viking.

Focused brand on top of their game.

I sea trialed the Tiara 39' & 44' Coupes when they first came out. Way above quality of a Bayliner or Sea Ray. The Coupe replaced the ever popular Sovran which they produced for years & years. The day I sea trialed was a heavy chop and windy on Biscayne Bay. The ride was just okay imo, some slamming even on the 44. The sales guy was all about the joy stick docking and pods (which worried the hell out of me). I admit the ease of docking was impressive but I've spent my long life docking single or twin screws with no bow thruster, so for me it's not necessary and another expensive toy for novice boaters. Now I see tons of used Tiara Coupes for sale, and I'm thinking I know why. I ended up with an Intrepid 475 but now that is sold, so thinking of looking at the Tiara Open Expresses. They seem to have a good reputation and lots of them have straight shaft diesels. Also, they look to be great fishing machines, and hopefully a better ride than the Coupes were. Would love a Viking but don't want spend the coin.

I think they sold Pursuit to Mastercraft.

Not that I am in the market, but I really still donít get outboards on much more then 32í. I know Iím definitely in the minority on this.

I'm with you my minority brother. I just sold my quad 47' Intrepid. After 2 years of ownership, I definitely felt a boat that size needed diesels.

Tiara was owned by Leon Slickers of Holland, Michigan, met him at the Miami show around 1980. He started SlickCraft, which he sold to AMF in the late 70s which restricted him to build sailboats, thus S2 Yachts was formed, when AMF busted, he started making power boats again, Tiara, then Tiara Pursuit, then Pursuit.

I have an older Pursuit and for what I use it for in the gulf of mexico, Not many other manufacturers hulls from 99 are still solid and handle well. The later versions did seem to cross more to the mixed use user and less hard core fishing, but the hull is the same concept

The new Coupes are ugly, but the 31, 39, and 43 open are all look great, and they ride great.

I’ve been a Tiara owner for eight years now. I love my boat.... 2001 38 Open

that said, I can’t seem to fully get myself to like the new ones.

For my my next boat, I’d like to go to a 2 stateroom 2 head setup but in Tiara land that puts me into a Sovran or Coupe which I can’t get behind yet.

They still make a 43 Open I think?

You can get two rooms and two heads with the Fly.

Sinnce Tiara places the engines forward you lose space, but the ride and balance is impeccable. I'd take the ride over increased space.
