Default Prop for Sea Hunt Bx 25 FS

I just bought a 2018 bx 25 fs.

It has a Yamaha f300 with a SWS II SDS 19p 15.25" prop on it. I can only get 5600 rpm out of it trimmed way up with the jack plate and motor trim. Top speed currently is about 51 mph light. The motor had 9 hours on it when I bought it, now has about 14. The motor printout showed no time above 5000 rpm when I bought the boat. I am a little concerned that the rings weren't properly seated by the original owner.

Anybody have the same boat that can recommend a prop based on experience with this hull?

I think the same prop with 17p will probably do the trick, but I thought I would ask before I spend almost $700 on a new prop.

I'm planning on calling propgods BTW. Just thought I would see if anyone has first hand experience that could give some input.

Thanks.

2017 BX25BR here, same hull motor and prop. Only major difference is youíve got the glass enclosure and Iíve got a plexiglass windshield. I can regularly touch 53 MPH into the wind and current at 5700 RPM. Takes a solid minute or better of no porpoising trimmed all the way out to get there.

Is your 51 MPH averaged up wind/current and down wind/current?

I think the recommendation youíll find here is the Mercury Tempest Plus 19. Iíve hesitated to switch to the Tempest simply because I can spin 3000-3800 RPM and get over 3.2 MPG no going no slower than 28-29 MPH.

did you ever get more info on your prop? Iím purchasing a 2017 25 bx and it will have a brand new yam 300 installed and Iím afraid I will have to play with props as well.

Called propgods and bought a power tech ofx4 17 which is a 4 blade.

Much better hole shot with little bow rise. Boat handles better all around. Gets on plane with jackplate up, although not if it’s all the way up. Stays hooked up in turns where the sws would ventilate.

Motor turns right at 6,000 now.

Only downside is is that I lost a little off the top end. I still hit 51mph light the other day though. With the boat loaded down I think it’ll be more like 48-49.

If you wanted to stay with a Yamaha prop, I would opt for the sws II 17 pitch.

I ran a Tempest Plus and SWS II 19 pitch on my BX 24. Numbers were almost identical.

I wonder if an OFX4 18 would be the trick here. If it turns upper 5700 low 5800 that may be the ticket.

How is your midrange mileage? I like the SWS 19 because itís not uncommon for me to get 3.6-4.0 MPG cruising 27-31 MPH. I can

I picked up an OFX4 18 over the weekend from a member here on THT. Ran a quick test today during lunch. Very pleased with the results versus the SWS II 19.

MPG improved in the midrange by about 2 tenths from 3000-4500. My slip numbers donít look right in one RPM band so I want to rerun before posting the full spread. Spun it up to 5810 and 52.4 up/down wind average at 50% trim. Didnít loose a whole lot of speed at WOT.

This boat needs a big four blade, feels completely different behind the throttle and crossing wakes.
