Default Minn Kota on board Alternator Charger

Does anyone use the Minn Kota on board alternator charger? Any good or bad feedback would be great.
Thanks!

I have not used that one. I've had great success with the Stealth 1 A/C D/C set up for my past boats it charges while on the run.
Flatout71 and R Days like this.

I have read that MK recommend that the TM is disconnected when charging the batteries with an AC charger. So should you disconnect the TM when charging from the outboard?

What batteries are you using? I honestly think with this type charger much smaller lithium batteries could be used than what size people need for AGM and no on the fly charger.

I've used the Trollbridge 24 for a few years. Very happy and a lifetime warranty.

The Trollbridge24 Combiner allows you to charge your 24 volt trolling motor battery from the 12 volt alternator on your main engine or trailer hook-up.

It works by automatically putting two 12 volt batteries in series when you need to run the trolling motor and in parallel for charging.

It is bi-directional so when not trolling, the trolling booster battery backs up your starting or house battery.

The Trollbridge24 is suitable for installations with alternators up to 100 amps and 24 volt trolling motors up to 85 amps

I have a MK two bank alternator charger and it works great. While I do unplug my trolling motor when using the plug in charger, I never unplug it when the MK alternator charging is charging and have not had any problems.

I would say on average it allows the trolling motor batteries to last about 50% longer, more if you run the big engine a lot. With the MK charger I can easily go 3 days fishing heavily without killing the batteries and not plugging them in at all.

I have been using the Odyssey batteries but they will build the charger for whatever you want to use with various banks. You can purchase just the DC charger or the AC charger. I have always purchased their AC DC set up & it has never failed me.

I’m running a Yandina trollbridge36 and just bought 2 Yandina combiner 100s from my starting battery that go to my house. Super easy set up and not expensive. Might want to take a look.

The trollbridge36 makes 3 batteries in parallel for charging. Or can place these same 3 in series for trolling. Just can't do both at the same time.

This would work great for short stops at many places when the trolling motor never needs to fully discharge. Also makes sure you are topped off from ramp to first drop.

Being able to actually run off the engine charging system while trolling.would allow purchasing smaller less expensive lithiums saving all the weight of larger group 27 or 31 lead batteries. When you can buy 3 x 50Ah batteries for $1200 vs. at least twice that for 3 x 100Ah and have a hands off battery maintainer system it just makes sense.
