Transducer won't read depth on speed
#1

Hello THT. I have been experiences on my new Garmin Combo with a Transducer on my aluminum boat. When ever I get on cruising speed, the transducer won't pick up the depth. It keeps blinking a certain number. Any tips or anyone have any similar experiences? and yes the transducer is level to my boat. Thanks!

There's a couple things... First, your transducer could be in a spot where it's not in clean water while running. If it's behind a strake or even a raw water intake there could be just enough bubbles to prevent it from reading. Second, if your unit has CHIRP, I found that when running I use the split CHIRP/Traditional mode and traditional always reads even when CHIRP doesn't. Third, you may need to move your transducer down on the transom a little.

CHIRP mode doesn't do as well in reading the bottom while at planing speeds as a single high frequency such as 200 kHz. if your hull has rivets, they can be causing turbulent water flow that will degrade sonar performance.
