Do you happen to know what build spot you were in. Did you order the first two boats or were others in front of you in line. I imagine this could open a flood gate if you were further down the line.

Sorry to hear for the the OP but kind of makes you think of the newer boat companies today producing one boat and then take 70-80 peoples $5,000.00 deposits and not even return phone calls.

I've been there. This is not fun. Its like watching a slow-moving train crash where one party is financially, emotionally, and socially decimated and the other is left holding a worthless and forever uncollectable judgement.

So many times in previous threads people said this was going to happen and so many times they were told they were wrong.
I just searched and read a few.
Yikes.

one thing is obtaining a judgment, another thing is collecting on one. the second part is the hardest.

And if you were convinced you’d never collect, you might just go ahead and publicize the filing as broadly as possible, since it’s the only kind of damage you’ll actually be able to do.

Man, hate to read this. Hope an amicable conclusion can be reached and hope the accusation of using build deposits for personal gains is just posturing. Using company funds for personal use has spelled the end for many a small business.

This sucks to hear. Spoke to Kevin at a boat show when he was just starting and he showed us his 26, you could tell the guy was proud of his new boat.

It sounds like he just bit off a little more than he can chew with this cat venture.

I hope you get made whole again, congrats on your new 39st purchase, that is an awesome boat.

Did Barker ever get a 26 out of the door profitably? I just don't see how you charge 200 large for a 26 foot boat and not stack cash left and right. The "lesser tier" builders sell the same style boat, with similar materials and cost structure, for a 1/3rd of what Barker charges. How could this company do anything but rake in 50 grand in cash for every boat that rolled out the door?

Please tell your "friend" I am no longer practicing, I got lucky in the late 90's and early 2000's. I have retired into fishing and hunting. Prior to retirement I was licensed in four states including Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and California and dealt mostly with international trade.

I have no skin in the game and I hope the best for all involved in this matter.

Dis gonna get gooood. Two sides to this but if OP has his ducks in a row, I don't see Kevin coming out of this well financially and hanging on to stay in business. What's the chances he used the money to "float" future boat builds and can't repay the money.....
