Default Question concerning rubrail replacement on Pursuit

One of my winter projects this year is to replace the rubrail on my Pursuit 2870 CC.

I have done rubrail replacement on a handful of boats over the years but they were a little different than the original rail on the Pursuit.

My Pursuit has a flat aluminum stiffener behind the insert.

Is this a necessary item when replacing the rail?

In looking at the TACO online videos none of them show the installation of the aluminum strip.

One video is of an older Pursuit and they removed (old Ship Shape episode) the aluminum and did not replace it when installing the new rail.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Subscribed. Also have a 28' Pursuit that could use a new rubrail.

Is the insert plastic or stainless? The aluminum could be there in case of a hard impact which dislodges the receiver from the boat. If the insert is plastic or rubber, the aluminum could keep the rub rail from sagging after the impact and keep it in place. It could also be there to spread the load in the event of an impact to a piling, dock, etc...
