So they say you are 2 months out of warranty and they won't fix this backrest that was never installed correctly to begin with. Then they tell you how to jury rig it back together?

You sir are much nicer than me, because with me the conversation would of then turned to this. OK please send me this recommended fix for your workmanship safety issue in writing, so that I may document my repair for my lawyer and OSHA and the coast guard. Who will all be getting a copy.

Getting a copy that is right after I post it and the picture of this defect along with boat manufacturers and selling dealers info on every social media page known to man.

And don't worry about whether they threaten to sick their legal guy on you, as they have no recourse against you for telling the truth, keep it simple and factual.

He just wanted to know what is and how to perform the best repair. Not how to beg or threaten a manufacturer for something that is not owed by the manufacturer.

What does a lawyer or the Coast Guard have to do with an out of warranty defect?

If it were me, I'd take the pictures back to the dealer and give them "one more chance" to fix that crap job. Honestly to me it looks ridiculous. The person that put that in knew exactly what he/she was doing. Or just fix it and be done with it; it's sad to see any manufacturer do such shoddy work.

It's not a rod holder it is a seat part. If the backrest gives way do to piss poor factory installation and someone is thrown from the vessel and injured or killed it is on the manufacturer and since they have been given a chance to correct their negligent installation then doubly so.

I'd bet this boat cost the OP more than a lot of cars on the market would. If he was showing you a seat frame in a car installed that shoddily would you be so quick to give the factory a pass?

We can't have quality and nice things in this country anymore in big part because the average Joe don't have the ball's to demand it anymore.
