Default Outboard motor protection- cover, ceramic coating or something else?

With new motors, wondering what would be the best outboard motor paint protection? Looking at the splash covers, but wondering if using something like ceramic coating or maybe something like a clear film?

The splash covers run about $300 each. I'm thinking a ceramic coating, but not sure if that is the right choice.

I use cowling covers (unvented.....not for use while operating). Keeps the birds and mud daubers out of the air intakes..., and protects the paint, and keeps it clean. Price depends on motor and vendor. You can get V6 Yamaha branded covers for $100-$130.....Bass Pro sells their house branded covers, not as good a fit, for $40 or $50.

I wouldn't bother with ceramic or clear film on an OB....but that's just me.....

This. Mud duabers can take out a motor. Cover them up or add screens to the intakes.

new Mercury v6 outboards so probably go with simple covers. The splash covers are interesting but not to my taste.

I need a guard to keep amateur fishing guests on my boat from dinging them up with jig heads and egg sinkers

I use the Bass Pro cover...I know it has their name on it ,but it has a nice soft lining inside , it wont ware the clear coat finish ...fits my 200 Optimax ...I also put it on under my winter cover to protect it from the tarp that can rub with a little wind and dull the clear coat..also wax it throughout the season

SAME ISSUE HERE....CHARTER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEAT MY COWLING TO DEATH. ''OPPS, SORRY'' IS WHAT I GET, AND THEN 10 MINUTES LATER SOME OTHER NUBE WILL DO IT. I HAVE TWO COWL COVERS. ONE IN ''STARS AND STRIPES'' FROM OUTER ENVY, A LIGHT STRETCHY MATERIAL, AND ANOTHER FROM OCEAN SOUTH, A HEAVIER NYLON MATERIAL WITH A FELT LIKE UNDERSIDE. ''''''''ALL SPLASH COVERS'''''......VENTED, MATCHING 2013 250 SUZUKI PERFECTLY. B-U-T, EVERY MECHANIC TYPE ALWAYS SAYS, ''ISN'T THAT THING MAKING YOUR MOTOR RUN HOT??????''
NO, NOT REALLY, I'VE TESTED WITH AND WITHOUT. SEEMS ENGINE TEMPS THE SAME, FROM WHAT I CAN SEE.

NEXT MOTOR I BUY, THE COWLING WILL IMMEDIATELY GO TO A ''WRAP'' GUY. LOTS OF SUPER CARS WITH SUPER PAINT JOBS AND SUPER PRICES GET CLEAR WRAPS OVER THE PAINT. THIS WOULD HELP. DON'T NEED NOTHING BUT CLEAR WRAP, AND IT'LL HELP BIG TIME. MY COWLING IS SO DISGUSTING FOR ME TO LOOK AT, AFTER SANDING PRIMING ''DINGS'' AND REPAINTING SPOTS ALL OVER IT. BUT IT EVENTUALLY FLAKES OFF, AGAIN.

THATS WHY I WENT TO THESE TWO SPLASH COVERS. (BOTH SOLD IN FLORIDA) MY OUTER ENVY STARS AND STRIPES IS MY SPECIAL 4TH OF JULY COVER. IT'S GORGEOUS. BOTH THE COVERS STAY ON NO MATTER WHAT, AND PROTECT, VERY WELL. SINCE THE OCEAN SOUTH COVER IS SO NICE, I ADDED ONE TO MY MERC 15 PRO-KICKER, THAT SITS NEXT TO MY ZUKI 250, TO KEEP SINKERS AND ROD TIPS OFF OF IT TOO.

SINGAPORE, JAPAN, NZ. , AUS. CARIBBEAN, ALL PLACES I HAVE SEEN ''SPLASH COVER'' IN USE. B-U-T.....NOT MUCH IF EVER, IN THE GOOD OLE USA. AT MY BOAT RAMP, OTHER CHARTERS, OR WEEKENDERS, WHY NOT??

DO WE HERE HAVE SO MUCH CASH FLOW, NO ONE CARES? LOL.!!

Love the beer can holder. Strategically placed for the charter customers. Lol.
