Default Should I pull the trigger on this.

I see this boat for sale every morning on my way to work. It's a classic! Think I should go for it?

"Honey, you need to get rid of that boat NOW!"
"But dearest, I have it for sale...no one wants to buy it."

If you can't read the sign, the price is $2850.00!

The people in the cars behind you are saying "I wish this guy would move and stop taking pics of the boat so we can go!" Lol

it seems like a decent deal if it has a good motor.

Don't do it without an in-water test. I see rivets. Rivets can leak. The whole boat could be full of leaks. And that trailer has a nasty looking rusty area right in the middle of the structure where they break. The whole value there, really, is in the motor. That's what you're paying for. Make sure the motor is worth close to what you're paying for the boat.

It's a long winter. Nobody else is gonna buy it between now and spring. The seller will be more motivated then, too. You can't use it till then. Why not wait? Cash is king. You're in the driver's seat until you plunk it down on something. Then you're stuck with what you've got. You might see a better deal by spring. The only deal I would offer without an in-water engine-running test would be a low-ball. If it could be checked out by a mechanic, that would be grounds for a compromise, but even then you still don't know if it leaks without either an in-water test, or if the owner will allow it to be partially filled with a hose on the trailer.

Also make sure it's got a good safe fuel tank/lines/filters. Does the steering work OK? Floor OK? Seats? Controls? Electrical? Trailer axle, springs, bearings, wheels, tires, lights, winch, coupler, all OK?

That is, if you want to enjoy boating instead of doing boat/trailer projects.

If it's a big project, a fair offer might be just the $850. You'll need the 2K and more to fix it up. And a lot of time, and a place to work on it.

That looks like a 70s era 16' StarCraft. Probably has a 70 Johnson on it? Way overpriced at $2800.

If you took it off the guys hands for free it will still end up costing close to 5 grand, easy. Maybe three times that.

This guy has the right idea. Tow her out and unleash some fire power. Should stay afloat long enough for some target practice then create a nice artificial reef as a bonus!

More like the... "Chinese boat-builder superior model with no-core glass layup that is worth waaaaay more than you silly Americans would pay, therefore it sits outside so long we forgot about it"... price.
