Default Caribbean vacation in January? fish/fun

4 adults, early 50's, looking for ideas for a week in January. Would enjoy a little bar hopping, dining, some fishing, and a day or two doing the beach thing. No specific targets for fish. Usually do inshore, but open to whatever creates adrenaline.

I've never been in the Caribbean, so I have no clue where to start. Would fly out of New Orleans.

Appreciate your help!!

Depending on how low key you want to go, I like Bonaire .

Pretty sure it rains a lot more down that way in Jan. Better be pretty far south.

I went to Roatan Honduras the last 3 years in April and May. Beautiful and laid back. It was pretty slow.

Asked when it got busy there. He said winter time. People want to get from the cold up north.

I said doesn't it rain a lot more in the winter there. He said yes but rain and warmth was better than cold for the tourist.

Roatan is around 1,000 miles or so almost south of LA.

St John USVI back from two cat 5's, rent a beautiful villa, fish for a day and then visit the BVI'S.
Recent visitors are giving the island great reviews, no crowds and some of the best beaches in the world.
There is a reason that the most expensive real estate in the Caribbean is on St John.

That time of year specifically, I would say Aruba. Warm, dry, breezy as always, fun in the sun.

Another vote for Aruba, plenty to do, water will be a little warmer and little chance of rain.

Flying out of New Orleans, you have your choice of Cancun or Cancun. Flights to the great spots will require you to take 2,3 or 4 flights to get to --often out of Miami or Atlanta.

I have been to virtually every large and small island in the Caribbean. They all have their plus' and minus'. But my favorite place is the mountainous and incredibly beautiful St. Lucia. I no longer to go Mexico or Jamaica, and have no desire to visit any Banana Republic.

Default Freeport Bahamas

I have been to the Bahamas a thousand times and Like Freeport

If You go , stop by the shops and marina where the Straw Market is located and stop by the Pussers store and Fatman's Nephew bar

Then swim with the bottle nose dolphins at Unexco
