I need a quote and have been through Allstate, Progressive, Nationwide. None will write in S. Fla.

Awaiting USAA, and Boat US

Anyone have ideas or suggestions.

In contract on a 348 Intrepid and will not be able to close without having coverage HELP my dream is becoming a nightmare!

They take our dough for years, have a hurricane and need to anti up on legitimate claims, and now they pull out!

We are all at risk,

Frustrated..................................

Tight Lines.

I feel your pain brother. I bought my Intrepid back in 2004 when the hurricanes were just starting out. Have you called Marsh private services. They are a broker for ACE and I have nothing but good things to say about them. There number is 212-345-0712. speak with Joanne

Thanks: Have a call into them, coincidentally. They close on Fridays until the end of summer. If you're in S. FL; What are you paying if i may ask? You know what your weighs, mine has Kevlar so it's a bit lighter, but I really do not know. Much appreciated. Tight Lines.
Just sucks!

USAA wouldn't insure me because it was over a 60K value.

I went with SafeCo out of Seattle...great rates.

Im with State Farm in southwest florida. They were also the cheapest. I just switched my autos over to progressive and they quoated me on the boat as well but were a little higher. I saved over $600 a year on my two vehicles though!!!

Boats value over 100K or over 30 foot in length are having problems getting insurance in S. Florida and Gulf Coast. I ended up insuring for a bit less than the cost of the boat with Progressive. You won't get it thru USAA (They just doubled my house insurance). You might try International Marine Insurance Services in MD; Al Golden. He does a number of larger boats up and down the East Coast. I could have gotten exactly what I had asked for at 3x the cost. (and I trailer my boat out of the area during any named storm)! It is hurting the industry!

Travelers. There is a broker in South Florida for them but I cannot remember the name. I have my boat insured through them and still cannot remember their name.

Similar issue here for me. Charter lakes will only insure a big expensive triple engine cc if you have a trailer and haul out for storms. Morgan at Jack martin insurance in MD is getting me a price on a 36YF next monday give him a call..jackmartin.com.

Not hauling for storms when you CAN haul for storms is a fools game. I applaud Charter Lakes for requiring this - it keeps their price REASONABLE.

I agree but I did get a quote from a company that required me to haul my 35' sportfisherman or they would not pay for any damage. There is 1 marina within 35 miles with the ability to haul my boat and they have 1 machine and no place to store the boat once it is out of the water. There are a couple of yards 35 miles away so I called them and they made it clear...they would try but the chances of them hauling and securing many boats was slim to none. They are just not set up for that.

Bottom line, there is no way for me to haul my boat before a storm. The agent made an honest suggest, a stupid suggestion, but I think honest. He suggested I just haul it for hurricane season and put it back in after hurricane season. Obviously, he had no clue.

Umm, the quotes for insurance were hardly reasonable even if you haul the boat out. Add in buying a 6000 dollar trailer, storage for a trailer, and a dually to pull a 36 foot boat it quickly adds up.

Maybe with the price of gas and insurance the " FUN" of owning a boat is over

Thanks for the suggestions. I will follow up. Trailering a boat out of the path is a pipe dream and irresponsible. Track any storm in the last ten years on the (weather underground), and see how predictable a storm is, a joke. Great idea secure you vessel at the risk of your families life safety provisions, and accommodations! BRAIN DEAD POLICY UNDERWRITERS, avoiding the issue. Unfortunately for all of us, irrespective of the demographic local, we are all going to be faced with the issue. I insured the same vessel with the same carrier for over 14 years, never a claim. Placed the claim after a legitimate disaster and now I am marked and further restricted from securing a policy. Couple that with the fact that boats are inherently vehicles with the least amount of claim, the Insurance Companies are raping all of us. Three years of progressive losses due to wind storm, is not indicative of the profits they have made the ten years prior. Take a look at the books of any public traded Ins. co, you will be appalled. Venting on THT will never change the facts that we as boaters will soon be uninsured across the board! Just lame, and pathetic. Tight Lines

I'm in South Florida, and on my $35k (used) boat, the best quote I got was from State Farm. Boat US and the others wanted absolutely ridiculous amounts.

Just so you know, I recently secured insurance (full coverage) through USAA for my new boat. USAA does not directly insure boats...they contract it out to Progressive at a reduced rate. Also, they only insure up to 90% of the replacement cost of the boat. Notice I said replacement cost, not ACV. I was happily surprised to find that part out.

Progressive is not an option for a boat greater than 30 feet or 100k, at least in Fl
