Default U-ship any experiences?

I am looking at another distance buy. Anyone book through this company for hauling with praise or nightmares?

I used Uship twice to transport boats from the East coast to Louisiana. Both times had great service. The second was really great. The guy put my boat/trailer on a low bow for the same price as pulling it with a pickup. If you can find someone needing a back haul can strike a nice deal.

I've used them for work probably a half dozen time, boats and trailers on flatbeds (old trailers) without a problem. One guy went way over when it came to loading a boat and over wide trailer

Used it once, turns out it was a broker trying to shop it out cheap and I couldn't get any bites. Took a month to get it done by throwing more money out.

Shipping a boat from Texas to here, I didn't find anyone on U-Ship that had the right equipment and could meet a tight timeline.
i had to have the boat picked up a specific day to match my travel plans.
I ended up using a local (to Texas) boat transport company and everything went very well.

I used it to ship a 25’ boat from California to Ohio. Everything went well and price was very reasonable.

You cant really judge uship as a whole since it depends on who is shipping and how competent they are. Personally I would never use someone who was not recommended by someone I know. There are just too many things they can do wrong and potential headaches down the road dealing with them.

Even if you quote through uship, at least give the board sponsors here a shot at the work. There may be more, but the two I know of are Flynn Marine and Alden Transport & Marine.

This^. I've used them a couple of times to ship cross country with zero problems. Just make sure to check the bidders reviews.

uship doesnt do the actual hauling

do your due diligence on the actual haulers. plenty of info on past threads here on what to look for. they should carry three different types of insurance, in their own name, and provide you proof of all three

check their DOT registrations, accident history, etc

as mystery has indicated - insist on proof of insurance and DOT registrations. Lot of fly-by-nighters on there.

These are all independent shippers and your mileage may vary (pun intended).... However, if you do your due diligence, read the reviews, ask for paper work, and not always choose the cheapest one, you can have success. I have had 2 transports. The first was a 32 sport fisher I had shipped about 1200 miles. Seamless. Then I had a 28' CC on a trailer towed about 250 miles. Also a great experience.

Used them, there were a lot of guys with pickup trucks, with no insurance who were lowballing. I went with the highest bidder who was a professional, fully insured. You get what you pay for. Yes, you can get insurance through Uship, but then you'll wind up paying as much as a professional and still have a guy with a pickup. I'd go instead with a recommendation.
I used John, and he was great.

i has a bad experience but I will admit I used the lowest bidder. I put all the fault on myself. There were plenty of legitimate bidders that I passed up. My only advice is do not solely price shop

I know a guy who used to haul for UShip. You need to be careful. I wouldn't have trusted him with a rowboat. He would overload his trailer, and pulled with a POS truck that was not capable of many of the hauls. He would pick up your boat, and then load another haul into his truck. I watched him pick up boats, then drive to an unsecured lot where he would unhook the trailer, make a quick run for cash so that he had money to buy gas to make the bigger haul. Insurance? He don't need no stinkin insurance (he had nothing to lose anyway.)
He had no money, so if he broke down, your boat sat until he could scrape up enough money to buy repairs. And yet, he had a 4 star rating.

My advice: If you are going to use UShip: make sure the guy has all of the proper licenses. If his equipment (truck etc) looks cheap, so is he. Verify if he is insured. Verify last time equipment was inspected.
Or better yet, find a licensed, insured, and bonded shipper who specializes in boat transport.

We shipped two SeaDoos on our double trailer with UShip. They basically just get people to bid the job and you pick who gets the work. I had the trailer ready to go for the couple that hauled them from the Florida Keys to central NY. Somewhere along the line they got a blowout on one tire so bad the rim was ruined. They completed the trip using my (aging) spare. They reported that to me and kept in contact the entire trip. Other than the blowout the deal was fine.
