Air in dual helm Seastar compensating line

My boat has two helm stations, the cockpit unit is only about 10 inches higher than the wheel house unit; there is a clear compensating line between the two and there appears to be a decent size air bubble in the compensating line.

I have been struggling with bleeding air out of the system and trying to correct sloppy steering but I canít find anywhere if itís OK to have air in the compensating line.

is it OK to have air in the compensating line?

doesn't sound that way;
Seastar install instructions:

NOTES:
a) A compensating line is required between helm stations or the helm and autopilot power pack.
b) All hoses should be routed with a gradual rise (particularly the compensating line) so that air will not be trapped in the lower helm station.

Btw there are vented & non-vented helm filler plugs -
lower helm gets non-vented, upper gets a vented plug

Solved!

Today with the help of a 12-year-old I accomplished what three different boat mechanics didnít.
I hooked up my purge fittings and within 30 minutes cleared about 5Ē (size of bubble in clear tubing) of air from each helm. My compensating line is set up like a roller coaster so there is a tiny bit of stray air for me to remove but Iíve got virtually all of it out and the steering is rocksolid.

Called this company to ask a question and Tyler couldnít have been more helpful and even said I could call over the weekend if I ran into a problem.

88 bucks and 30 minutes, no cut bottles, zero mess and no wasted oil.
Awesome.
