Default Crevalle 26 Open Special Edition Catastrophic Transom Failure.

On our way out the Pensacola pass to head to the edge for a day of fishing. On the way to the pass, I looked back to check the trim and everything looked normal. After we filled the live wells we heading out to the edge. It was going to be about a 30 mile run so I wanted to get the best fuel burn I could. I looked back at the trim and noticed a wall of spray. I noticed the boat was riding low so I stopped and checked the bilge but it was dry. I looked around and that's when I noticed the engine was falling off the transom, completely separated from the transom. Raised the engine to see if I might have hit anything and the lower unit looked brand new.

I was able to limp back to the dock after a few hours and the dealer picked up the boat. Contacted Crevalle and they sent someone up to look at it. Turnes out he was some customer service guy that said a total of three words. I finally pushed to get the owner on VP on the phone since they were driving to TN for the Yamaha meeting. I was crystal clear to them that I would not be taking that boat back and I could never be comfortable with my family on it. They said they could repair the transom or possibly replace the hull.

I put an offer together that I along with the dealer thought was fair. I wanted to be put into a regular 26 open for a reasonable price ( not free just reasonable) and I wanted the difference returned. I had a 26 open built in Feb for $141K and I jumped into the special edition a month later so I knew the numbers. Crevalle said go pound sand TO MY OFFER all we are going to do is replace your hull. They use the same hull they use on there other 26 that are only rated for a 350 supposably they "beefed" up the transom of the 26 special addition for the Mercury 400R. There building 10-12 of these special additions. If you know anyone with one(or a regular Crevalle) pass this on. After posting on another board it seems I'm not alone with this issue.

Looking at that transom it doesn't surprise me that happened. I mean look at it, you have a less than 1 inch wall of fiberglass with a foam filled void. I'm no engineer but that to me looks like a terrible idea. The transom is definitely one area of the boat you don't half ass on materials. I can only imagine what would have happened in the event you smacked something along with that transom delaminating. I wish you the best, hopefully you get it figured out. I personally would be rid of that company the moment that boat was sea worthy again.

whoa I would be pissed. If they do fix it I would be willing to bet the transom would get overbuilt to not have another problem out of you so at least you have that going for you. Good luck.

Had a feeling something like this would rear its head eventually, (it’s not just the 26 R’s with questionable workmanship). thought they would step up when it did... glad y’all made it back safely

That is a mess and unbelievable it would happen on boat that cost over 150K. The fact that this is your 2nd Crevalle and they won’t work with you is just bad business. Crevalle claims to be a top tier builder but there are a lot of other owners that would disagree.

Best of luck. Hopefully they come to their senses and make this right for you.

THE 26 BAY INCLUDES INTEGRATED TRIM TABS, A LARGER CONSOLE, 83 GALLONS OF FUEL, AND UP TO 350 HORSEPOWER CAPACITY.
website state this
HP: 300 – 400
Website state also this
Spec PDF file state: 200-350HP
Gallery show one boat with 400HP Verado as OP has/had
It seems that they don't (wanna) know what HP and weight goes on their boat
The extra lever from the jackplate was probaly too much fot this transom....
However, the - as it seems- spray/poured foam in the transom is just u belivable

That totally sucks, I would be pissed as well. You’re fortunate, it certainly could have been a lot worse. What are the details of their warranty? 10 years? What does that cover?

That's shocking if it was a Bayliner, let alone a 141K 26 footer. Unfortueately it might be hard to be made whole without letting them try and fix it.

I priced one here LA a few years ago with a 350 without Electroincs for under 100 grand.

Damn they have raised the prices .

Sorry OP that transom is toast and not top tier quality.

Hopefully they come too their senses.

Holy crap, that would be a uneasy trip back to the dock and than rage would creep in once it got out of the water. I sure hope Crevalle steps up and makes this right.

Wait until they slap that V8 Yamaha on the back of that transom, things are going to get real interesting.
