Default What is this non skid material?

My new to me boat has what looks like a self adhering non skid. It looks terrible and I would like to remove and maybe replace with white. Anybody know what this is called and best way to remove. Sorry for the poor photo, you can just see it on the bow and strb bow foredeck.

Much thanks!

No, it is in the corners of the pic, I will post better tomorrow. It is a self adhesive tape of some sort.

I used that stuff all the time when I used to race beach cats. The stuff I used was made by 3M. Most big marine surplus places will have it or you can buy it online.

Peel it off, clean with acetone and re-install with color of your choice. As mentioned already, a little heat makes getting it off easier. If it's been on there for years, it may come off in pieces (PITA).

I bet that tape is hiding holes where the handrail was mounted. Most Whalers of that vintage had a big wrap around rail that ran from the bow and down the sides and was mounted on top of the gunnel. Others had a big rail on the front and then smaller rails inside behind the larger rail. Look closely for the old holes and be sure they were properly filled or you'll wind up with a waterlogged boat. It looks like that boat was partially restored at one point, so the holes may have already been filled.

x2 it is a sticker type product manufactured by 3M. Peel off and clean up with acetone of something like goobegone.

Sometimes it’s covering up something that may look worse.
