the only hate you see? Now that’s funny.

As for the deposit, I hear that Internet forums are the most reliable source for unbiased counts on facts. What a joke.

besides, it’s a free country. The seller can have whatever policy he desires. It is up to the market to decide if they are willing to participate or not.

Ok I'd like some clarification. Is it a 10k deposit and if you aren't happy after sea trail you only get 5k back or is only 1/2 the deposit refundable after you have gone on the sea trial decided to move forward and then have a change of heart before they start your build?

Some of us actually know each other. If TBone says that was the message he got from Cayo I believe him as will many others here.

Have fun building it in your head until your ride . Nothing to lose. If you wait, you may not see a boat for a couple years, selling like hot cakes!

If as stated above by Tbone, this is an Interesting change on the deposit process. Everyone gets irritated by tire kickers but a 5K or 10K deposit followed by a sea trial is different.

Since you can’t sea trial the Cayo Cat at a boat show then you have pay 5K for a ride to see if it meets your needs. That doesn’t make any sense & I hope it was just a misunderstanding.

Standing by for some build threads.

My understanding was that the deposit was fully refundable if you weren't satisfied after seatrial. If you were satisfied Cayo keeps 5K to hold your slot. The 10K initial is to make sure you are serious before wasting time that could be spent building boats taking looky-loos out for a free ride.

The speculation on this thread is crazy! I don't have that kind of coin to spend on a new boat so I have no skin in the game. However I have seen this cat in person and was impressed or sure.

I just don't understand all the negativity, as far as I know every single Cayo skiff buyer has been satisfied and I haven't heard of any complaints with their customer service.

If someone was really serious about this machine they would reach out to the builder and wait for a legitimate response from the company instead of relying on "Hull Truth" heresay.

I have to say it is entertaining to read though.

Serious drag sure but 50lbs straight up and down? Post a video seriously...

THAT makes sense, regarding the deposit. Maybe I misunderstood the other version of the deposit, but I took it to mean that if you didn't like the ride during the sea trial, and decide you don't want one, they get to keep 5K just because they took you for a boat ride. That version doesn't seem to make any sense.

I was told and the paperwork says deposit is fully refundable until you get a test drive and can make a final decision. I'm super early in the order list and would have been earlier had I not have been sick the first couple of days he was taking pre-orders. It's going to be a game changer. I was very close to buying my buddies Calcutta so I have a lot of respect for their boats. The biggest downside with that boat is speed. It's horribly slow.

What game is this boat going to suposibily change? The only thing its proven to do better than the Calcutta you were going to buy is go faster.

Fusion on a serious note. Since you have been on cayo and Calcutta how would you honestly compare the 2 in terms of fishing room inside the boat? I do wish my Calcutta was faster for sure.

Sheez...What price glory and WTF has happened in one year??? Oh well...
Well really that only exists because people are willing to pay. If people don't buy it, the manufacturers either stop building it or eat it and sell for less. Take a look at the used boat market, its relentless. Most don't care what boat you have or done to it, they won't pay for it.

I suspect a lot of the negativity here is due to either not being able to afford this boat or can’t justify the price for those that could afford it.

this includes me.. I was originally very interested when we were talking about $140k... but at $200k, it starts bordering on insanity for ME to justify.

its obvious they have reached a market that is ripe. Also, it’s not like their competitors are exactly budget boats.. A Calcutta or Prowler with similar power won’t be too far off in price.

Time will tell but putting 10K down on a boat that is X amount to be delivered in 3 years seems awful risky to me.

What happens if the economy takes a turn like in 2008. 2005 to 2008 is 3 years and the boating world came to a screeching halt. Many established builders were hanging by the skin of their teeth. Will today's inflated boat and motor prices withstand that type of down turn. What will the interest rates be on boats 3 years from now?

What will happen to resale values?

Lot's to think about.

It's amazing at the number of uninterested parties that are just slinging poop into a fan about the Cayo. The only thing that bothers me about the Cayo is that I'll have to wait for a used boat to hit the market before I can afford it. The rest of you jerkoffs are absurd. Beam over 9 foot and y'all are worried about fishing room? Compared to what? A Bertram 65? And she flat out flies at 80+ WITH A T-TOP! So because there's objectively nothing to complain about regarding the hull, now the negative Nancies are all making stuff up about the deposit process...without actually talking to Cayo? Quit being knuckleheads. Now, bring on the build threads!

Speed and ride quality.

The Calcutta is a great boat but it's slow. Basically 37mph is the max for that hull. In the slop it does 28-30.

The Calcutta has more fishing room. The cockpit on a Calcutta with the transom gate down is unreal in terms of size. Seriously so much room. You couple that with the short low 100 gallon well it's a sick setup. Just wish it were faster.
