Default Trolling Motor for Aluminum Boat - need advice

I just acquired an 1981 16 foot Fisher Marine aluminum boat with a 1992 40 hp evinrude motor. The original trolling motor needs replacing. I intend on fishing inshore, including the ICW on calm days. What do you guys recommend for a trolling motor? Thanks.

I had a 24V 55# trolling motor on my 1746. Here in Louisiana when chasing schooling specks and reds under birds and against the wind I wanted more. I currently have a 24V 70#.

Minn Kota Riptide Terrova 12v 55lb thrust with ipilot.

Model # 1363706

This is the best money you will ever spend if you fish.... worth every single penny

I agree though that bumping up to a 24v would definitely benefit you if you fish in heavy current. Just depends on how the 12v did on your hull (which I guess you do not know since you just bought the boat). Price difference between 12 and 24 is about $250. Might be worth the upgrade....
