Any unhappy Evinrude G2 owners out there?
 
There's been no shortage of threads comparing one O/B to another one. This isn't a comparison thread. I just want to know if you own or have owned the new Gen2 Evinrudes and your satisfaction with them. Only first hand knowledge. I don't want to know about your uncle's friend's brother-in-law that had one blow up. Only owners or past owners.

Getting ready to build another boat and the G2 250 H.O. or G2 300 is beginning to pick up my interest.

I took a demo ride on a Ď26 wellcraft CC that had a pair of 225s or 250s G2s. It accelerated like a wave runner. Topped out at 55/56, and the driver didnít spend much time playing with the trim so I donít know if it had more left.

Aside from that, I donít own them and canít tell you about reliability or ownership.

Auto trim is standard on the G2 - there really isn't any good reason for anyone other than a pro driver to play with the trim except in rough sea conditions.

Fantastic engine, excellent power, good on fuel, low oil consumption using xd 100. Power steering is excellent. Quite happy with the engine. Had a Ficht and that was good engine for 15 years until the very end. G-2, start engine and go fishing. I have written a few times about the engine on other posts, check them out. Not a fan boy, just had a relatively heavy hull to move. Actually is quick now and have warn passengers to hold on, did not have to do that with the Ficht.

Love my G2. Just a different animal than a 4 stroke.

Wanted something different and 10 year warranty.

Quick question, do you have it set to use the XD100 oil (which I understand uses less oil) or set to the TC-W3 setting which gives you a little more protection (by injecting a little more oil) and use the XD 100 oil?

I've heard this from quite a few people. 1. They love their G2 and 2. Evinrude bends over backwards to keep their customers happy when there is a problem.

The G2's are made to run on XD100. Dont think they reccomend anything different. At 30 dollars or so a gallon and the amount they burn its not bad at all.

But it seems like the pricing for G2's is all over the place.

It can be programmed by the dealer with the software to run oil other than xd100, they don't recommend that if you boat in cold temperatures, that should not apply to you. For the amount of oil you use and how clean it runs, I will always run xd100. On a side note, prior to me buying the boat I run, in 2008 BRP replaced the EMM, even though the engine was way out of warranty and they did not even own the company when the engine was manufactured. That spoke volumes as the their level of trying to do the right thing. Also Seahorse as a resource on all the posting boards and their owners website is another level of comfort. I think all manufacturers make good engines now, it just what will work for you, your boating style/needs, and whether you want to pour or change oil. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices out there. Best of luck.

I love my G2 300s. Had them on new sled since August and now 115 hours of pure awesomeness. My last boat had twin 300 second generation Verados. I'll never go back as the power, torque, efficiency and maintenance schedule I now have have made my fishing habit pure joy! Ten year warranty with no hours exclusion here in Florida and Evinrude stands behind their engines.

Absolutely LOVE my 2017 150hp G2 HO as I have posted many times on many forums. I put her to bed this week with 141 hours and figured that I burned just shy of 5 gallons of oil for the year. The 10 year warranty is a big reason people jumped on these and from what I have read they back this very well.....don't want to know personally. I have played with a couple of other boaters (3)with other 150's and blew them out of the water without having to run full throttle. We had planned the course, lined up and I let the them get hole shot and then blew past and did again but this time I got hole shot and never looked back. One of these were a Cabela's fisherman and got to know him well thru summer so my G2 made me a new fishing buddy with great tips.
The ONLY thing I would negotiate and ask alot of questions about on my next one is the computerized operator gauge.the brain. I have the 3.5" Evinrude screen but not all options are hooked up. Mine only shows the engine temp, the hours, the oil level and the engine tilt percentage. Other G2 owners have theirs that shows all including miles to empty, GPH, trip logs, and many other things I wish I had. My next one will show everything that motor is doing at a touch of a button because upgrading now would cost me big $$$.

Love mine.

Also, they can run on any tcw-3 oil. They don’t need to be programmed like the g1’s did to run a specific oil.

I've run a total of 8 G2 300's over the past 3 yrs. Best engines I've owned to date. All were flawless. The boat ended up selling in less than 2 weeks from listing it.

Only one issue with a recall on a corroded dps sensor replaced under warranty. Never created an issue but they were replaced anyway prior to being delivered to new owner.
Our new 36 will also have trip 300 G2's. We run heavy with dive loads and the torque and fuel efficiency can't be beaten.
Also really enjoyed being able to just add a gallon of oil to each rez with each 300 gal fill and not having to deal with oil changes and service on a boat kept on a lift.

Only 5 gallons for 141 hours?! Damn. I must be doing something wrong. I got twin 250 HO pushing my GW Marlin and am putting in a gallon in each for every tank full (give or take). Long runs out to the tuna grounds. Getting about 1.3 to 1.5 depending on cruise speed but usually at 4500 rpms going 35. Love the motors and power they have.

I believe the H.O. models oil at a high rate since they are "High Output" meaning that they designed to be run hard.

We've had some bugs that needed to be worked out with the steering, but they run extremely efficiently and strong. No complaints we'll see how they hold up.

I think it depends on the model because the 200 HO is actually the lowest output on the 3.4L platform. The "HO" on that model is intended to distinguish it from the 2.7L 200.

I have been called a liar for stating the oil usage and I don't care. I keep records of all expenses including bait costs per year because years ago we had a boat for taking customers out and we could write off a percentage. Just like keeping a log on truck expenses it became a habit.
I only run my motor 15-30 minutes at variable speeds to get to the fish so I don't run it hard.
Lake Erie dosn't allow wide open speeds very often.
