Mine just blew a water pump so I am not happy right now. Get it back on Tuesday. Also had an issue with a recall to change out the cooling pipes. Water in fuel and alarm did not sound. Generally pleased so far. Much faster, and better fuel economy that the G1s they replaced.

I just got new G2 300s installed on this Blackfin 29 Combi several weeks ago, and while it's still a little early to be touting greatness, the performance and economy appears outstanding. Considering that several other identical boats, but without towers, typically run 40-42 mph WOT with F250s, I'm pleased. Plus they get this heavy hull up on plane extremely quick. Not nearly as quiet at cruise however, but that wasn't a consideration. But wait, you did say "unhappy" owners. Sorry.

Check the G2 owners forum. You will get better info from a wider audience there.

Thanks Joe. I guess I posted it in the wrong spot, but here's the thread where this boat was for sale on THT some 8-9 years ago. I just updated it after our recent purchase and upgrades:

Blackfin 29' Combi w/outboards +trailer SOLD SOLD SOLD

Great looking engines and in black they look even better - the colour I will chose for mine if I ever manage to get one.

I only run my motor 15-30 minutes at variable speeds to get to the fish so I don't run it hard.
Lake Erie dosn't allow wide open speeds very often.
You sound over propped.

I had the same issue when I purposely over propped my ficht.

It's when your engine isn't hitting the proper rpm.s while cruising.

For example, I had an 222CCP aquasport that I just threw on a 19" OMC aluminum prop.

WOT, trimmed all the way out, with 2 people and full fuel, it would only turn over 5100 rpms or so.

Now, when I loaded the boat down to go offshore and then in heavy seas with tab, the engine was working way too hard. When that happens, the EMM takes readings from the sensors and then knows the engines working really really harder than what it should, when that happens, more fuel is used and much more oil is used.

For example, a typical trip for me would be 40 miles round trip, I'd burn about 16 gallons and that would get me 2.5mpg but instead of only burning 1/3 of a gallon, i'd easily burn a little over 3/4 of a gallon, being somewhere around 30-35:1. Which I should at least be close to 50:1

So if under your regular load out the props won't let the engine turn up enough rpm, you are going to burn more oil no doubt.

I've heard this from quite a few people. 1. They love their G2 and 2. Evinrude bends over backwards to keep their customers happy when there is a problem.

But it seems like the pricing for G2's is all over the place.

On a side note, prior to me buying the boat I run, in 2008 BRP replaced the EMM, even though the engine was way out of warranty and they did not even own the company when the engine was manufactured. That spoke volumes as the their level of trying to do the right thing. Also Seahorse as a resource on all the posting boards and their owners website is another level of comfort. I think all manufacturers make good engines now, it just what will work for you, your boating style/needs, and whether you want to pour or change oil. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices out there. Best of luck.

The G2's do not have the option for the reduced oil setting like the G1's. You can use XD-50 or XD-100 (which is preferred) or any full synthetic TC-W3 NMMA certified oil in a G2.

Someone give me an idea what twin 200 HO's should cost for my Reg.
I got a price of $49,000 out the door from two different places. 49K for twin 200's? WTF? That's $23,000 more than I can get a pair of Suzukis done for out the door, labor and everything included.

The manual states that the tcw3 does need to be synthetic so not just any tcw3 will do on the g2. Xd50 is also acceptable. The perfered oil is xd100.

That's high, but are those zukes 4 cylinders or 6 cylinders?

PM me if you want, the dealer I know is so competitive people buy from them from all over.

Twin 300s with 10 yr. warranty and idock was $43k plus tax best quote of three at FLIBS. If you’re in SFL, call Jamie at Coastline in Pompano.

I may have come acrosed as complaining but no way am I. The ONLY complaint is that I need a air ride seat or such because of severe back injury so I do baby my back if I want to walk. Dr's told me long ago I was thru boating but this boat has me back and happy. I'm very happy to add oil with every fill up which is usually only maybe a quart to 10 or 15 gallons of fuel. I cruise about 34mph and have topped out at 48mph on gps but only do that a few times. My fuel tank is only 27 gallons and won't let it below 1/2 and that takes 4-5 trips. I love spending maybe $50.00 on fuel every 4-5 trips so oil is not a cost factor at all. Yes I carry alot of freshwater gear on my 2017 186 Titan Starcraft , but it is not over 500#.
Thank you for intelligent conversation.

Replaced a G1 150 with 900 hours on it with a G2 150. G1 got 3 MPG at best, G2 gets close to 4 MPG. Run nothing but Penzoil $17 a gallon through both engines. 160 hours on G2 no problems at all. 20'6 wellcraft loaded with dive gear 2 divers. Fish and ice, .Happy with BRP never owned anything but OMC and now BRP.
