Bayliner or maybe Jarrett bay, although the Bayliners take the edge in terms of quality.

Best what? Best built, best looking, best deal, best for a particular use? I realize this thread is just a conversation but it's a bit nonsensical unless you specify the purpose. Garlington's a great boat but if your ambition is world cruising or flats fishing it kinda sucks.

a friend of my fathers had one custom built in Maine many years ago called the Ortem, last I knew she was in Boston, Mass. That boat harpooned A LOT of swordfish in her day.

If the owner or anyone that knows of her is on here please let me know.
