Default Curse these *@#%* non-venting fuel tanks!!

I have an Attwood six-gallon tank on my sailboat, purchased right after the Nazis outlawed SANE fuel tanks, meaning this thing blows up like a BALLOON in a couple days time. It actually forces open the hatch cover if it isn't latched down.

How can I vent this stupid thing, other than just leaving the cap loose?

I sure thought there would be, but I can't find a single one no matter what string of search terms I try.

Buy the Sceptor tanks as they are easily modified. They also make the Suzuki, Yamaha & Tohatsu tanks.

I broke down and bought the Yamaha tanks a couple years ago. Vents work better, no leaks, but they're exspensive as chit. I think I paid $150 for each. The Atwood tanks are like 50 bucks at Walmart.

No kidding! That might be the answer then. I'm totally willing to buy a new tank if I have to, but just a new cap would sure be nice. One way or another, this has got to get fixed.

Insulting the engineers in unnecessary....IT WAS THE LAWYERS who are responsible for these horrible gas cans.

Not sure about attwoood 6 gallon cans, but portable jerry jugs have the same issues. Andyou just can't screw on and old cap, they changed the thread count on the new ones. Finally found a fix for mine and it was advertised under some obscure name like 'water bottle cap'

Gene,

There's an excellent video tutorial on how to modify your gas cans using a bicycle valve out there somewhere on YouTube. A couple of preppers made it. They were more concerned about how the new cans pour than our venting issue, but if you store your can upright in the locker it might be worth looking into.

I have two old ones with real vents, that I use for all my 2 stroke yard engines. I guess fuel vapor is a threat to life on earth. The Sceptre ones with the spring loaded spouts are the WORST.

That's what I did and it works great.
