Default Another almost lost my motor thread

Throttling up out of the no wake zone and hear a loud pop. Sounded like someone slammed a door behind me. Start looking around and a 1/2" motor mount bolt snapped off at the threads.... I guess the G2 has too much touque for standard mounting hardware.

Does this happen alot? Guess I will carry spare motor mounting bolts??? Wtf

Maybe drill them out and go up a size? The boat is only 2 years old.

Ouch. That could have ended differently. Good job on paying attention.

Good thing you checked it out. Lots of people ignore weird sounds and well a different story follows.

I looked up the minimum tensile strength of the bolt that broke.... over 11000 lbs.

Had to be a manufacturing defect in the bolt. I still think I'm going to change all 4 out.

Haha watch the Etec bashers who previously tried to claim four strokes had more torque now come on and complain that it has too much torque and is a hazardous POS. I know a couple people running the G2 now and haven't seen this happen though.

I wonder if the threads were galled and over tighten.

Make sure you use some grease on the stainless bolts.

The torque specs are in the chart you posted, people over tighten engine bolts all the time...

Damn you dodged a bullet with that one. Please make sure to torque correctly the future hardware. I could easily see someone overtorquing something and causing this.
