Invincible Cat

I'll go ahead and start the inevitable thread. There have been numerous references to Invincible building a catamaran...presumably to tap into the Freeman/Cat revolution. Seems like smart business.

The rumor is a Michael Peters designed cat.

Anyone seen a rendering or have a rendering of the boat?

Anyone know when they intend on unveiling this boat (if it exists at all)?

Anyone put a deposit down on one?

Thanks

FusionZ06 09-15-2016 02:36 PM

Very interesting...

Sarasota Line X 09-15-2016 02:44 PM

I think the question is what will Miami and Lauderdale look like in two years with seavinceabarker cats coming.

Gulf 09-15-2016 02:44 PM

I think so too. If these rumors are true, it will be good for those of us that are interested in a Freeman, but not interested in waiting three years for it to be on the lift. Peters designs a pretty boat too.

Ten years from now, I really do think that the canals of Miami that currently are filled with high-end mono-CCs will look completely different. It will look more like Sydney, Australia and Aukland, NZ with all of the cats.

Someone needs to get ahead of the wave and start a business dedicated to cat-lifts in South Florida.

I just got a 33 built , I asked about them building a cat . The answer I got was no those are just rumors , but my gut tells me they are hiding something in the building across the street

I love the, "those are just rumors" responses. LOL

If you are not building a CAT you say, "Hell NO!"

I think they left the door wide open with that comment.

Lucky007 09-15-2016 02:59 PM

I agree I think at the very least they have toyed around with the idea and have some renderings

If they don't one of the other big boys should because the market is ripe for a comparable boat to a Freeman (I know, I know - Prowler). Invincible, SeaVee, Yellowfin, Seahunter...one of these outfits with the cash flow and build capacity needs to get into the cat market fast.

Prediction...if Invincible (or one of the others) does this with any degree of success, you will see the others quickly get into the market as well.

That would be great for consumers as that market can use some more choices.

SaltyRhino 09-15-2016 03:59 PM

I could've sworn there was a pic of it posted here a while back from someone. Maybe Rod27 but I'm not positive. It was a good looking sled from what I remember. There is also a huge possibility that I dreamt this whole thing up in my sleep. I hope not though.

The thing about is, the majority of the builders you named are backlogged months to over a year and they build well over a 100 boats a year. Freeman isn't touching that, one reason why theres such a backorder for them. If they were building a 100 a year and still had a year wait then your talking. Lets see in 10 years if theres one down every canal.

davy1959 09-15-2016 06:37 PM

Do y'all really think Australia and New Zealand are ahead of the curve of the USA on boat design if so grab your shoulders

Is Invincible really producing 100 boats a year? I can see Yellowfin, Contender, and Sea Vee produce that many because they have a lot of models.

doughboy361 09-15-2016 07:06 PM

I have heard Barker working on a cat hull. If it's true the fit and finish going to be top notch.

I heard they do about 80 boats a year.

Back when I bought my Canyon Bay they were selling about 10 boats a year.

I'm pretty sure they're close to it, I know Yellowfin, Sea Vee, and Contender are closer to 200. I was just lumping them together.

jhuffman228 09-15-2016 07:36 PM

Freeman has certainly set the bar very high, I'd be interested to see what it does to the market but it would have to be a hell of a boat.

Boat sales are close to 200K per year, 20 to 100 boats a year is peanuts .

MuddyMO 09-15-2016 07:45 PM

Successful companies adapt to what the market demands. If the market wants more cats, then it's likely we will see more cats from reputable builders.

Think about how Nor-Tech entered the "fishy" center console market...

I'm with you. I think we'll see more of the current cat builders evolving their hulls just as Prowler has done.

The rumor is certainly industry wide so I'd say it is more than a rumor at this point. What I find interesting is how will a company who has been producing 33, 36, 39 & 42 foot stepped v-bottoms boats that they have been claiming are best of class now completely change gears and start pushing catamarans. I'd think they'd actually be competing against themselves while also impacting the resale of their customers that own v-bottoms. It will be interesting to watch for sure.

CO2GURU 09-15-2016 08:22 PM

If peters is designing the cat for invincible, I wonder how different the running surface will be for the other high end builder he is also designing a cat for. I know for a fact he is working on a design for someone other than invincible that I cannot name for obvious reasons. I just find it interesting that one guy designs so many different manufacturers boats.

You make a great point, but I think they sell them as an alternative to a "best in class" V-bottom to the guy who is hell bent on cat, but still wants the quality build that the top tier V-bottom builders produce. Doesn't necessarily mean they push them, but at least they can offer them and make some $$$. It's a bad comparison, but Porsche sells SUVs on the same lot as 911's.

An edgewater cat would be awesome or contender.

No. But I heard they are working on one as well.

Rod27 09-18-2016 04:51 AM

The fit, finish, and build quality of a Freeman is better than what i noticed on my 2009 Invincible. If you watch a video on Michael Peters, he says his passion was always racing cats.

CANARIANFISHER 09-18-2016 06:20 AM

I would very much doubt american boat building industry is behind Australia or NZ in regards to recreational or indeed any kind of boats ...... in the best of cases Aus and NZ would be on par, on the other hand the world has known for centuries the possibility of building two narrow hulls and joining them at a certain distance and so far that concept has never prevailed ........ there are many reasons for that prevalence of the monohull which are not worth repeating again ..... but the humankind has spoken ....... monos are preferred, for speed, good manners, beauty and usable space either for a recreational or for professional usage, ......... it is like when talking about women for presidency of countries .......... of 193 countries only 20, have a woman as prime minister ...... humankind has shown their preference in an unmistakenly way ....... and not all those people can be wrong, either when choosing a boat or a head of state ......

This is this is the most close minded, narrow thinking, blinders on (or maybe blindfolded?!) thing I have read in a long time. Thanks for the laugh, man. Did you time travel here from the 1940's?

He posts many interesting replies, enough for me to always notice the user name.

With modern engineering and big outboards I'm excited to see what the other big name builders produce.

I am even more excited to see a nasty 40+ Higher speed/stepped cat like the freeman 42 with an elevated walk around pilot house, air ride/shock absorbing captain chair seating for 6-8, AC, huge live wells and fish boxes. Something that will keep you dry and comfortable in all conditions, cruise 50+, capable of getting 150-200 miles off shore and back in the same day comfortably. One day maybe.

I had to, All this talk and no pictures? I had also heard Nor-tech was going to build a center console fishing cat based off their 3600 supercat bottom. Anyone see or heard about that?

That cat would be more representative of a Dusky cat build. Gotta believe other builders would have at least a little fluff and visual appeal.

Take a look at British cats

When we talk about catamaran we tend to focus our attention in Australia and NZ, but I just found some very interesting cats in England. among them are Cheetah Marine, and Safe Heaven cats. They tend to be rather rough looking since they come from the commercial market, but their designs are quite interesting, The cats from Cheetah Marine have the option of being powered with the OXE outboard diesels. They are expensive for civilian use and I do not think they meet EPA standards so I think that They can not be imported into the States at this time.

Wrong...and they are expanding. Can't wait to see what Michael Peters comes up with....cats are his self-proclaimed passion
