I will be paying myself back in fuel and oil savings, apparently alot faster than I thought, so there's the happy ending.

Now I post up my experience and it has to be either a) your calling me a liar or b) the motor a CERTIFIED EVINRUDE DEALER told me was a cherry was now sick because its a fuel and oil sucking POS. The only thing I will give you is that it a) etec was possibly not set up ideally and b) I am comparing an 09 to a new motor. Etec was on the lowest height (still achieving ~ 6000 RPM WOT). My Suzuki they chose to set on one bolt down from being highest.

Running back/forth to the same reef, I never put less than high 20's gallons in fuel on the calmest lighest trips with etec. Its about 14-17 miles round trip, plus bubble watching all day. I ran the etec at every cruising scenario possible to try and vary the mileage, but it always ended up in the ~ 30 gallons window. I put 14 gallons in on Saturday in Suzuki. I always fill my boat till it comes out the vent so I know its full and at the same level every time. Nothing embellished, nothing more, nothing less. Sorry you dont like the results.

I am out on these threads man you guys are just too much. As I said on another thread, i am sincerely glad you are so in love with a particular product and it makes you that happy.
So, now its 14-17 miles ROUND trip and not one way. That would put the ETEC only getting .5ish mpg and the zuke around 1. First off, the etec only burns WOT 27gph. Not sure what kind of boat you were running, but, if it was designed for a single, im sure it was at least a 45-50mph boat. So by that math, if you had it WOT (burning 27gph) and traveling roughly 15 miles, you would had to be going roughly 13mph to have burned 30 gallons of gas on a 15 mile round trip.

That or a rigging error or wing nuts on the batteries would be my guess

Totally. Must have had the bilge pump running the entire time or nav lights on

The comparative numbers don't make any sense 1 way or round trip unless comparing a carb'd 2-stroke to a 4-stroke.

What engine did you have before the E-TEC and what did that motor burn?

What boat, model, and size is it?

What speeds did you run at both with the E-TEC and the Suzuki? I can believe a slight difference in fuel consumption between the motors but 2:1 difference. How did you measure the fuel, did you fill up each time or was it on a flowmeter or the digital display reading from the EMM?

I'm not getting after you for your statement of double the fuel used as I believe there was an error somewhere or your E-TEC's white paint would be covered with soot and not run correctly.

Could you give us some engine history while you owned the E-TEC, the serial number if you still have it?

Just to point this out to you because obviously you need someone a little more objective. People are telling you your numbers don't make sense so you ignore them. Yet you had an engine the prematurely went bad. You don't think hey maybe there was something wrong with the engine? Sorry but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to say something was wrong with the engine or the setup. You dont randomly burn twice the fuel you should be and have an engine prematurely go bad.

Why do we keep bringing up etec G1 info on here? That's like comparing the G2 to the Yamaha HPDI....seems irrelevant. Old motors aren't as good as new motors, we got it....

Yeah but it is more satisfying for him to tell THT how he knew he shouldn't have bought that outboard in the first place, and that they are all thirsty garbage. I am so glad that somebody finally explained to my how crappy my G1's are.

Just fished this weekend with trip 300 zukes on my fountain. Ran 150 miles out. While running from rig to rig offshore at night we were running 36 mph at 24 GPH. With 6 people, over 500 lbs of ice, and 460 gallons of fuel. Pretty good. Ran 50 mph at 1.2mph in daylight. 350 miles and 277 gallons fuel 24 hours never shut motors off.

Never. Had a bunch of 2 stroke opti's. Oil cost WAY out weighed oil change, and sick on 2 stroke sound.

Triple 300 zukes get 1.6mpg at 46mph light without fishing load. Not sure how Yamaha 300 numbers could be so low. Know they are prob similar to zukes.

Perhaps he's a good storyteller, though his story does seem to have it's flaws

At one point "he was adding oil EVERY time he went out" but his trips were 17 miles so, either, he had to be burning excessive amounts of oil and fuel, or the details were greatly embellished.... ;?;?;?
