Default What's my range on a polar 18v center console?

My boat is a 2001 polar 18v with a 2016 tohatsu 115 TLDI. It has a 10 hp mariner kicker, 33 gal tank plus 3 in the mariner tank, GPS,radio, t-top, epirb, extra prop, tools and extra electrical parts. Will be heading out of Sabine pass. I was thinking about going in the 15-25 mile range. It was originally advertised as a inshore/offshore boat. Would only go at 2' or smaller seas. Will this setup make it safely or am I asking for trouble? Also, I have a tow membership.

Only way to find your range is to run it, and calculate your milage/gph. Reset the trip on your GPS, run around til about 1/4 tank, then head in, and top it off. Stay in the ICW/bay system to figure it out.

You are the only person who can answer your question. Your safe range depends as much on you as it does on your boat. Do you feel safe 15 miles out in that boat? Do you have the skills to make repairs if needed? Can you get home after an electronics failure and your GPS no longer works? If I wanted to take a boat that small out and I was not sure of my self or my vessel I would find a friend with a boat with similar or better capabilities and buddy boat. 15 miles is beyond optimum VHF and cell phone range so you need to be mentally prepared to deal with what happens.

Best case 3miles per gallon. With 33 gal tank that's 100 miles. Best case!!!! Much less if you go WOT

Figure your safe range between 2 to 2.5 miles per gallon.

Easy enough to take a five gallon tank if you are pushing the envelope. Maybe go with a buddy boat?

Got a backup oil supply?? Make sure you carry a spare gallon of oil onboard always.
