I’m very interested to see you build your leaning post. I am planning on making one is that I can tie some pipe work from it to my hard top, when I make a hard top.

Almost hard top time!

big iron, I had initially planned to do exactly the same but given the size of my doghouse, the hard top will have more than enough support.
I actually think I'm going to pull a mold from the part for the leaning post so I can make more of them. Its a perfect size for any 19' to 26' boat

Got the mold sprayed yesterday evening before the front came thru. Had a couple spots where the gel gatored because that's right where gel in my gun kicked off on the first batch out of a new freshly mixed up gallon of gel. I mixed it at exactly 1 percent and I didnt spray for 4 minutes before it set up on me. Usually 1 percent has been a safe number for me even in the dead of summer would give me 15-20 minutes before gel.
I kicked the next batch literally at .5% and that was more like normal. Not terribly thrilled about it but oh well, fix it when it comes out.

I had the same problem with gel coat setting before I was done and wondered if the propellant caused it to kick faster. I managed to break it out of my container in chunks before it was a rock.

Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Cut the gators out with a razor blade and touch it up. You don’t care about scratches in the mold.

Yeah save that mold, we may happen to have a conversation about it next winter.

What at are you going to core the leaning post with, and are you going to screw it or glass it to the boat?

I actually was pretty set on no core at all. I figured if I can get the glass to about 1/4in thick the shape should be plenty sufficient to hold 2 people, also I have no plans of mounting anything to it really except for rod holders and cup holders on the top.
I would like to glass it down but I may just screw it down so I can remove it if needed. The flange is on the inside so no screws would show

Royce I have a question about spraying gel, not in a mold.

Do you do multiple coats in a day?
I read you do 1/3 duratec/ 2/3 gel, but do you cut it with styrene?
what pressure do you run your gun at?
What do you think is better 1.8 or 2.0 mil tip?

Btw, I almost bought guide green today, but did not want to copy you. Lol

Lol I was in fiberglass Florida yesterday, they told me!
the bigger the tip the better on the gun
1/3 duratech 2/3 gel
I dont regulate the air pressure on the compressor. I just use the air control knob on the gun. Really depends on what compressor you have. Mine because I dont regulate it has alot of pressure for about a minute, then the tank starts running down then it stays pretty good but the compressor runs non stop. Hasn't been a problem. Mine is 26 gal 185 psi 2 stage

No, unfortunately that's where the gelcoat alligatored because the gel kicked off too fast and that area was too thin. Easy fix though
