Smile Yellowfin, Contender, SeaVee, "Why no Cat?"

Given the popularity of Freeman why doesn't Yellowfin, Contender, SeaVee, etc make a Catamaran boat? Am I missing something in the great debate of Cats vs Monos?

Why would they? They already have wait lists. What advantage would they have?

Probably because the vendors you mentioned sell a hell of a lot more hulls than Freeman, if the cat market was so great Grady would still be in it along with the other second tier crowd, cats serve a small niche market.

Economics 101

Supply and demand : cat demand is a fraction of the boat market and still niche.

Good point on the Grady and I can't remember if the Tiger Cat was ever a success. I remember thinking they were kind a cool but Dad stuck with his Shamrock.

I realize all the above have waiting list but I read somewhere on another thread they have 2 years.

I actually saw a gray 34 freeman today being trailered down to the keys and it is massive. Maybe the unique design may have a crossover effect but will always be niche not to mention the sexiness of a 36 YF or Jupiter hull

Not to mention no dry stack marina in palm beach county will lift a cat unless its sitting on a platform.

Because then they'd have to admit that a cat is superior... and that would be a tough pill to swallow.

Yea in a true 3 to 4 foot chop you can drink a cup of coffee in a Freeman doing 40 mph. In the monohull boats you wont be doing that. The mono hull might look prettier to some but the Cat will be enjoying the much better ride. If I was paying that kinda money and fished offshore a lot the Freeman would be my choice everytime. I could careless if it doesnt appeal as much as a mono hull boat. The fishing room in a Cat is hard to beat also.

Really ignorant to put Freeman and a Grady White cat in the same thread. The OP specifically said Freeman. That would be like comparing a Yellowfin with a Pro Line. They both have pointy ends but do what they do very differently. The freeman is the driest hull I've ever ridden in. You literally have to try to make it sneeze and it still won't. Not to mention it's drier than any CV or comparable mono in everyday seas offshore. Everything is dry in the ICW

How dare you to disparage a butt. Butts look good. Catamaran's, not so much.

To me my dogs ass looks better than any catamaran.

If two wrongs don't make a right can two ugly's make a beautiful? Imagine a catamaran with two G2 Etec's on the back. That would be the epitome of ugly. IMO.

Given the popularity of Nortech these days it's surprising Freeman, glacier bay, and world cat don't make monos. :

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and whats beautiful to me is to be the same height at the end of the day as I was when I stepped foot on the boat in the morning and to be able to look in the mirror and smile and still have all my teeth, oh and I think the boat looks good too!!

Yellowfin has a year wait for a boat right now. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
