Default Stupid question...

What happens when you run out of gas on a Mercruiser small block v8? It wouldn't restart when switched to another fuel tank (with fuel). Four barrel carbed. It cranked great, realized I had run the tank dry...

I changed the fuel/water filter. It started up after some doses of starting fluid and an ounce of fuel directly into carb at my slip.

Did it suck all the fuel out of the carb? There was fuel in the filter...

Yes, I get the knucklehead award

The fuel pump also sucked the line to the tank dry. The fuel pump had to suck fuel all the way from the tank, pump it up to the carb. and then fill the carb.

Yep, you are best off pouring a couple of teaspoons of gas directly down the carb. Might have to do that a couple of times.
