I've done that twice.

Default Duh Dad!

Took the newly refurbished 18' CC to the ramp the other day for a shake down cruise. Confident the boat is ready, trailer rollers need work but I figure I can float the boat on/off if necessary. I back the rig in until I can hear the exhaust burbling in the water but the boat won't float off the trailer. Buddy holding the bowline stops me and unhooks the winch strap from the bow eye. These are what my daughter calls Duh Dad! moments.

I had mine Saturday. A 14 year old neighbor pointed out the problem.

Launching jet sled, clients on dock, motor running go into reverse power up, no go.
More Power! Still no go, what the heck. Look over bow OK unhooked. Jump out back trailer further in, clients watching , MORE POWER!! digging a hole in the gravel ramp, look over transom......... Two straps still on.....Clients now laughing, all want well rest of day......Laughs at my expense..

Ahhh, so I am not the only one who has forgotten the kill switch. Ran a battery down on my duck boat earlier this year and then it dawned on me about the time I went to bed that night. She fired right up the next morning with a jump box.

At the boat ramp, I once forgot to remove the trailer tie down straps at the stern. While I'm tugging away with the stern line, trying to pull the boat off the trailer, I initially thought I wasn't backed in deep enough. As I'm heading to the truck my buddy says, "Seems like it's tied down or something." D'oh!

Speaking of idiot tests, is it passing one or failing one that makes us idiots?

Late 70's Knights Key Fl, dead heat of July. Mercuiser I/O steering shaft locked up. Damn thing is too long to pull out. After 3 hours of banging, wondering how hell they got this thing in, getting tore up by no-seeums and contemplating just cutting the damn fiberglass out of the way, an older gentleman with 2 inch thick glasses walks up and from the dock peers down and says "why don't yall just knock that pin out and separate the two pieces. That would be so much easier."

DAMN

Back from fishing, wash boat, forget to fold down antenna, back into garage and snap goes 120$ antenna. It's a nice day and WM has it in stock, unhitch, go get antenna, install new antenna, hitch up and back into garage and snap goes another antenna. Too embarrassed to see if WM has another in stock.

Last year, fishing on my skiff. Decided to move to another place - no start, no click. After 20 minutes of fruitless searching for the reason behind no electrical power, I move up to the bow to get a pop. In doing so I pass the deadman switch. I had taken the lanyard off which apparently signaled to my Labrador Retriever that it was a tug toy. So he tugged it to the off position....

I was buying a boat and the owner was putting it in for a sea trial...... He failed to undo the stern tie downs and the trailer actually floated. I pointed it out to him so he got in his undersized truck and gave her hell pulling forward. The floating trailer wheels tapped a rock and kicked it sideways. I yelled at him to stop, but by the time he got off the gas the boat had scrapped the side of te concrete dock. long story short I got the boat for 2k less than I was planing on. It turned on to be a good boat.

My port light was out so I start pulling wires and connections before I finally check the bulb.

Another was trying to start a plane with a low battery. Hand propping until my tongue was hanging on the ground until I noticed I hadn't turned the fuel on.
