For entering the Bahamas? I was told by my neighbor who went to West End last weekend the entry fee for the cruising & fishing permit is now $300 per vessel up from $100. He claims the Bahamian Government hiked the Tax last week. I have looked on every offical Bahamian web-site and can not verify this. I have a few emails into the board of tourism, but like anything else over there they operate on island time. Has anyone else made a trip over in the last few weeks? My neighbor is kinda full of it, so I'm trying to clear this up. Thanks.

I understand they postponed the new fees until Jan '04. However, I also read where anyone visiting a foreign country, including the Bahamas, must physically check in with US Immigration upon return. That means you must appear in person, I guess. What a bummer!!

AAAAHHH!! Now for a little first hand information. I crossed over to Great Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands, Bahamas, last Monday. Five people on board. Fee was $115.00, $100.00 for the first four, $15.00 for every person over.
Came back yesterday, did the usual Customs thing, then went to the airport to clear immigration
. Met up with some folks who went to Walkers last Wednesday, and they said they were charged $300.00 to clear. That was a one day only deal, and they claim they were refunded $200.00 by the Bahamian Government the next day. Still a lot of hassle.
It's my impression that the fees are back to normal, but I'll be checking VERY carefully before my next trip.
