more than likely you are right. In the car world, you would sometimes see bent push rods due to over rev via down shifting when you wanted to up shift on the LS series of engines. Given that prop shaft jettisoned itself there shouldn't have been anything forcing the engine to turn over more rpm besides the inertia of the rotating mass.

Shafts look pretty skinny for 557?? hp. Anyone know the diameter where the shafts enter the case?

On the video the outside motors pulled WAY up and they are vibrating with every wake like they aren't providing any thrust against the transom. Or am I imagining that?

I see this is a Ulysses Nardin boat. I remember being on a cruise shopping for a Christmas present with my Fiancee. I tried on a beautiful Ulysses Nardin and fell in love with it. I asked for the price. Needless to say I ended up getting a Citizen.

This here is a beautiful boat!

I spoke with one of the sales guys that I know at Midnight, he says they have it running 90 so far and are shooting for 95. In order to do that they have the outside engines surfacing and the shafts didn't like that and broke. They are working with 7 Marine on a fix. I hope they figure it out, 90+ is flying in that huge boat!

Although I have a feeling if they cure the shaft issues the props will be next and start throwing blades as they are not designed for surfacing either.

They are running on or past the edge of what you can do with outboards on anything but slick water.

If you want to go 100mph in chop, you need to go with full blown surface props and then you might as well go inboard with full blown surface drives. E.g., offshore racing boat style propulsion.
