Default 12 ga flares

Anyone know the best place to get these? Mine are about to expire. I dont need the gun just the flares and the west marine and walmart only carry them with the gun.

You're likely not looking in the right place in the West Marine store.

Do NOT order them online unless you want to start a whole new thread about scamming marine dealers

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm guessing if you order them online, you will pay a hefty shipping charge due to the nature of the item (hazard fee).
If West Marine really doesn't have them in your local store, order them online for pickup at your store and you will avoid the shipping charge.

With the crazy Hazmat shipping fees, you may find it's cheaper to buy the gun and flares - locally- than to order online and ship just a pack of flares.

My Waste Marine carries just the cartridges - 4 pack. Maybe they were out?

As suggested, order them from West Marine through the store or on line to be delivered to the store for you to pick up.
No freight. CK expiration date when pick up.

Defender will have them much cheap then WM, but as others have said you will get hit with a Hazardous shipping charge.

They are just "ammo", no particular hazmat charge. WalMart sells 4 for $23 and they ship for $5 if you order them online.

I ship ammo a lot and have never paid a HazMat fee. To those of you who say there is a HazMat fee, are you speaking from experience or just guessing on an answer to the OP?

You cannot ship ammo in the USPS. I can only ship via UPS. I have never tried to send by FEDEX. You have to put a special label on the package which identifies is as small arms.

It's is a black and yellow label that I use.

Sorry Defender will not ship, in store pick up only. It is my understanding that Ariel Flairs are not considered ammo, but Pyro. I guess you can call it anything you want and put it in a box. Of course I have purchased ammo on line and had it shipped to MA, which is a no no. So I guess it depends on the supplier.

Here's a possibly stupid question... but I'll ask anyway.
Anybody ever put these in a shotgun as part of your defense rounds, or would they overheat the barrel?

Dad did that back in the 80s on the 4th of July. Flare went up about 50 feet in the air and landed in the neighbor's backyard causing him to come over and request that since he was going out for the evening, he would like us to keep the fire out of his backyard.

As a defensive round, only if your aim is to scare the bad guy aware with the sound of the sirens from the fire truck coming to put out the fire that would likely be raging in your house.

LOL. I actually meant more for defense on the water against those who like to sneak up on you and take your boat.

...and, no, I don't mean the Coast Guard.

12 ga. with # 2 shot is the best defense on or off the water.
