Default Unbolt and repair or just repair?

Purchased a 1995 action craft. Very happy with the boat. However, I have a very large friend who was standing on the bow as we were fishing and I noticed a steady stream of water running in the anchor locker. Mind you it only does it when he stands on it. After pulling the boat out of the water, I noticed a small crack on the eye where the trailer hook hooks in. I have attached a picture I think.

I have Marine Tex I am going to use for the repair. The main question I have is should I unbolt the eye or just repair the crack without unbolting Name: actioneyeresized.jpg

Remove the eye! Then remove any loose or flaking fiberglass if there is any there. Before you continue the repair, make sure the fiberglass is DRY.

Redrill the holes after you're done and use sealer in the holes when installing the eye.

X3...rermove the eye....looks like someone already tried messing with that before....the eye usually has a backing block glued in from the inside to help spread the load...it may be damaged or rotted....remove it, epoxy in a new block and redrill the holes for remounting the eye.

You don't want that eye to pop out while going up the ramp. Fix it right.

yip take the towing eye out! as has been said make sure the glass is dry and fill and reglass then redrill the holes again and make sure its got sealer Looks to me like it has a smaller dia eye and some one had done a rough redrill and fitter the next size up !! if it was small its possibly bent with a hard pull and damaged the holes !
Always seal properly !!
