Not seen much on this side of the pond. Built in the UK, unit injector motor. Probalbly OK for pleasure duty, Better than a Peninsular anyway. The funny thing is that I just saw an add with one bolted onto a Bravo III. Its 246 diesel HP. Thatll grenade a III, run just fine in front of a bravo I. A Volvo DP would hold up if they make the conversion, I doubt it. How does it compare price wise to the yanmar?

I looked at them for a long time and spoke with the australian importers a few times, they seem to have a good rep with few problems. Our special forces are using them in the huge RIBs they run, that says a lot in itself as i Know the torture testing the army puts gear through takes its toll.
Our importer also told me they have adapter kits available to suit just about any i/o leg you could imagine, that would be handy.
When and if i get the throw away funds to repower with a diesel i think I will go with the volvo D3 190hp instead, its a far larger company with a greater service base.

No firsthand info, but Steyr is an old Austrian company, highly regarded in Europe, been making diesels for a long time. Not much of an installed base here yet, but I've seen them at boat shows, and they are trying to get a dealer/support network going:

They mention somewhere on their website they have s Mercruiser outdrive setup for their engines, too. They apparently have a monoblock design, i.e., no separate cylinder head and therefore no head gaskets. Supposed to be very stiff and quiet as a result. They're also very light and like to rev (246/256 model rated RPM is 4300).

P.S. I'll be looking at the Volvo D3-190 closely when and if the time (money) comes for repowering, too.

-Thanks for the feedback. I'm crewing onto a ship with two RHIBs that are fitted out with the 236 hp engines on jet drives. I guess the good news is no horror stories about breakdowns were reported back.
-Our setup seems interesting with no raw water pump, it thieves off the jet drive for cooling the raw water/fresh water heat exchanger. did OK until we sucked up some kelp the other day.
