Is it okay to use XD-50 in an older auto mix 2-stroke? Specifically, I have a 1998 Mercury 200 EFI Offshore. I heard reviews using the Evinrude XD-50 producing less smoke. I've been using it the past year or two. This year I had a fuel pump go out and the Mercury mechanic told me to only use Mercury oil. He didn't specify any reason, s I'm assuming it's just because he is a Mercury dealer.
I do notice that the XD-50 is a lot less viscous. The Mercury oil is much thicker...
Anyway, I just poured my last bottle of XD-50 and it's time to order more oil, I'm not sure what to get.
Any advice / opinion appreciated.
Thanks

To be clear, I'm not talking about xd-100. I can get the xd-50 online for $24.00 a gallon which seems to be about the same as Quicksilver Premium Plus.
I really wonder about the viscosity (or lack thereof).

Overkill but buy whatever you want. I usually wait and get West Marine semi synth when on sale for 12-18 per gallon and buy a case...same goes for Pennzoil XLF or whatever....just get it when on sale...
